WASHINGTON — Dec 22, 2017, 8:10 PM ET

More than 40 former U.S. attorneys and Republican and conservative officials are pushing back against efforts to discredit the special counsel investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election.

In a pair of letters, the groups say Robert Mueller and his team must be allowed to continue their work, unimpeded.

The 22 former U.S. attorneys, who served under presidents from Richard Nixon through Barack Obama, say it is "critical" to the "interests of justice and public trust to ensure that those charged with conducting complex investigations are allowed to do their jobs free from interference or fear of reprisal."

Another letter signed by 22 Republican and conservative former members of Congress and other top U.S. officials says efforts to discredit Mueller's work "undermine the institutions that protect the rule of law and so our nation."

"We urge the Administration, members of Congress on both sides of the aisle, and the American public, to support the work of Special Counsel Mueller to its conclusion, whatever it may be," reads the open letter signed by officials including former Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, former State Department counselor Eliot Cohen and former George W. Bush administration ethics lawyer Richard Painter...........................

Before the election. Then why was Comey so focused on Hillary before the election? You would think organized crime and traitorous Russian connections were more damning than a few e-mails that seemed to have absolutely no impact on foreign affairs.

Why was Comey so hot and bothered about Hillary and not about Trump? Seems to me Comey was off chasing rabbits while the wolves were killing the sheep.

was that if you look at the entire cabal, they have been at this for decades, and have been let to slide until we reached this nexus. And now at this point, once they finally got clued into how far-reaching and breathtaking their illegalities had gotten, in order to prove the cases in court, they were finally forced to stop everything else, gather all the evidence, compile and transform it into something that makes sense for a narrative, and then go from there. I think every witness who has been talked to opened up yet another thread of wrongdoing and revealed even more people involved. It really is a RICO thing on a grander scale than anything in the past.

Meanwhile, Hillary was low-hanging fruit and I expect they felt she was a shoo-in regardless... but they were wrong and now know why.

As a far-out footnote, perhaps... and this is pure unadulterated speculation... they WERE onto them for real and in order to enable a honeypot environment, they "publicly" focused on Hillary to give them comfort to keep doing what they were doing illegally (like a high level "undercover op" ), in order to catch them in the act and coax confessions later down the road.

... thank you for putting that to text for me, for us...

It was a, "damned if you do, damned if you don't", situation. But I feel the greater good will come out.

PS: I have publicly called for a RICO investigation of the GOP for decades. Too many, "convenient laws", as to campaign finance were brought forth by them, going back to Nixon and the PACs.

So it was bigger and badder than they thought and or/they were allowed to hang themselves with their own rampant criminality.

Then of course Trump starts attacking the FBI and that really gets their hackles up.

My better half also believes they were busy watching the shiny coin that was Hillary and they forgot to look at the magician's hands. Because no one thought Trump could really win.

C'mon. If you're going to have courage, be straight -- only one side of the aisle is selling the country out to the rubes for rubles.

And hence all on George Soros' payroll, paid off and conspiring to stall Great Leader's Grand Plans ... to MAGA!

In fact, I read they all secretly put Granola on their Ben & Jerry's, and regularly perform weird hippie rituals, like with incense and crystals and Grateful Dead music and shit.
