Mark Kelly: If Trump gets credit for zero airline deaths, he should get credit for tens of thousands of gun deaths

BY MAX GREENWOOD - 01/02/18 04:32 PM EST

Retired astronaut Mark Kelly on Wednesday said that President Trump should be willing to take responsibility for tens of thousands of gun deaths in the U.S. in 2017, after the president took credit for commercial aviation seeing its safest year on record.

In a tweet, Kelly said that the Transportation Department, the Federal Aviation Administration, NASA and commercial airlines were largely responsible for the industry's safety record in 2017.

Kelly's comment came hours after Trump boasted that he had been "very strict" on commercial aviation since taking office, though he did say elaborate on what steps he took to improve airline safety.

Kelly is a staunch advocate for tightening gun control. His wife, former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, was shot and critically injured in 2011. The couple has vocally spoken in support of tougher gun laws.

He has not even begun to privatize infrastructure yet. He has done absolutely nothing, which is one reason why air travel has been pretty much unchanged. Just wait until the GOP deregulates and privatizes air travel. It will great until something goes terribly wrong.

When Trump accepted the GOP nomination:

"I have a message for all of you: the crime and violence that today afflicts our nation will soon come to an end," he said. "Beginning on January 20th, 2017, safety will be restored."

They give their Gods credit for all the good things. But all the starving children, the abused children who die, the poor and suffering, the mass suffering from wars and more wars, death of a loved one, God is not blamed for all the bad stuff.

Just like Trump gets credit for a marginally mediocre economy but not blamed for the continuing high numbers of foreclosures and bankruptcies.
