Poll: Trump approval drops to 37 percent

Source: The Hill

BY BRETT SAMUELS - 01/08/18 03:00 PM EST

President Trump’s approval rating dropped slightly to 37 percent following a week of explosive allegations detailed in a new book about the Trump administration, according to a poll released Monday.

The first Gallup Poll of 2018 shows Trump’s approval rating dipped 2 percentage points in the last week. A Dec. 31 poll showed Trump with a 39 percent approval rating, his highest mark in months.

In the week since, Michael Wolff’s book “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House” has been released, which contains numerous allegations about the Trump White House and sparked a public rift between the president and his former chief strategist, Stephen Bannon.

Trump has lashed out at the book, calling author Michael Wolff a “fraud” and deeming the work a “fake book.”

The party itself is shrinking, thanks to him, and the party's support of him. When he has 80% of 20%, it's pretty useless support.

I'm a numbers person and have worked in survey research/measurement.

When it comes to political polls these companies must use qualifiers by simply asking people who are randomly found (via email, phone, etc) what they identify as politically. IE Democrat, Republican, Independent.

So when you read a poll that says that 85% of Republicans support Trump, 40% of Independents, and 10% of Dems you must take the qualifier into consideration. If the survey has self-reported Republicans at 28%, Independents at 36%, and Dems at 40% then the total numbers for approval versus disapproval will reflect that as well.

We keep making a big deal about the "drops" in the poll numbers, but they never get any lower.

Didn't they "drop" to 34% once? And now they're "dropping" to 37%?

Whatever.

This happens every time a "Lowest" poll comes out. What they are saying it's the lowest for this poll only, not any poll.

You can't compare pew to cnn to quinipiac. they are all different. You can average them, or you can look at them against themselves only.

But I think the lowest poll that I've seen has been about 32%. Can't remember who's it was though. Check fivethirtyeight, they should have it.

Me.

Who change their mind at this point? Who are the 3-5% that keep wavering or changing their mind? People coming out of a coma maybe? I mean seriously, how could anyone not have formed an ironclad opinion of Trump at this juncture? This is what I have never understood about this polling.

If we had a country filled with well-informed voters, that percentage would be closer to the combined 20% racist, fascist and fascist-lite figure. I could cope with 20% or lower. 37% ? Sigh.

Claimed he was at the same level as Obama in his administration after the first year.

Any equating Trump with Barack is B.S.
