Graham to oppose short-term House funding measure

Source: The Hill

BY JORDAIN CARNEY - 01/17/18 02:24 PM EST

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) is coming out against a House plan to prevent a looming shutdown and keep the government open past Friday.

Graham told reporters on Wednesday that he is a "no" on the bill, which would fund the government through mid-February. "There's four of them. Eventually you've got to say no. I don't want to shut the government down but you know it's killing the military," he said of the funding bill, known as a continuing resolution (CR).

The South Carolina Republican added that "it's the worst way in the world to run the military and the government in general."

Graham's decision means Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) will need 10 Democratic votes to prevent a shutdown.

U.S. WAR WITH NORTH KOREA MORE LIKELY BECAUSE SOUTH KOREA IS 'UNDERCUTTING' TRUMP, LINDSEY GRAHAM CLAIMS

BY JOHN HALTIWANGER ON 1/17/18 AT 12:48 PM

South Korea is "undercutting" President Donald Trump's efforts to pressure North Korea to give up on its nuclear ambitions by allowing the rogue state to participate in next month's Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, as well as increasing the risk of conflict, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham has said.

Speaking at a discussion at the American Enterprise Institute on Wednesday, Graham, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, expressed concern that the South's overtures to Pyongyang were sending the wrong "signals" to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

The Republican senator said South Korea is a "great ally" and that he was sympathetic to the fact it was in a "bad spot," but added, "I think the signals that they are sending to North Korea are undercutting what Trump is trying to do, which will make it more likely that we will build up military capability, not less."

"I think what Kim Jong Un is going to see out of this is, ‘How bad could I be?’ I’m going to the biggest party in the world—how bad could I be?'" Graham said. "Here’s a simple rule: If you have the largest system of concentration camps in the world, if you systematically rape and torture your own people, and you threaten the world with nuclear attack, you probably shouldn’t go to the Olympics."

He's forcing Mitch to bring a bill that the democrats can vote for so that Lindsey doesn't have to vote for features he wants, but doesn't want to have to reveal he supports. It'll still be a CR but he gets to grandstand.

and maybe middle-East peace as well.
once other nations understand that the USA allows Trump and his ilk to hold office, they'd be perfectly justified in shutting us the fuck out of any long-term treaties and negotiations.
maybe then they all get their shit together and fix their own problems without our interference.
