Zinke touts opening up public lands at Vegas gun show
Interior Department Secretary Ryan Zinke took his professed love for hunting to the world's largest gun trade show in Las Vegas this week, where he spread the word on the importance of public land access.
Speaking on the Josh Tolley radio show from the event Thursday morning, Zinke said he attended the Shooting, Hunting Outdoor Trade Show which he referred to as "Trump country" to "let people know that our public lands belong to our people and not the government."
"Local voices have been ignored," Zinke told the radio host, adding that the administration is "opening our roads and letting people enjoy their land and putting the 'R' back in recreation," appearing to allude to Republican.
"These special interest groups dont want people on what they perceive as their land you cannot even ride a mountain bike in a lot of lands, so we need to adjust that."

It's maddening. It's like they've all gotten Master degrees in gaslighting.

Recreational users such as ATVers and power watercraft operators that destroy the land/water and ecosystem (decreased hunting and fishing opportunities), are often not well thought of.
Selling off private land and changing designated use regulations is not as simple as simpleton Zinke thinks it will be.
***and yes, I know the above does not apply all ATVers and power watercraft operators, and not all backcountry "environmentalist" campers are good environmental stewards, etc.

(15,805 posts)The are curated by a national agency because they are reserved for the use, in perpetuity, of ALL Americans with a wide diversity of interests. Even beyond Americans who visit our pristine vistas and natural wonders, tourists from around the globe throng to those scenic sights because they are unique in the world.
No, I don't want roads or tourist traps built in wilderness areas intended to be enjoyed for their natural beauty. I don't want to see the extraction industries anywhere in sight of a national park, or privatization schemes, either. Those activities would benefit the states, but the parks would never be the same.
