Paris floods: Eau no! French capital on alert as Seine bursts banks
Source: The Standard
Paris is on alert for flooding after the Seine burst its banks and tourist sites and stations along the river were evacuated.
Non-stop rain in the French capital has led the Seine and Marne rivers to rise and approach record levels, while rats are being flushed out of sewers in many parts of the city.
Videos posted online have shown giant rodents scampering through the streets and climbing into rubbish bins and one French photographer captured a group of rats scurrying around outside Notre Dame cathedral.
Seven metro stations along the river have been shut down and will remain closed until the end of the month, while the flood has also affected the Louvre Museum.

(15,257 posts)Even back in the middle ages, sewage was not considered a pleasant odeur. Women and men ran around with hankies perfumed in various disguising scents. Reminds me of driving through northern NJ Elizabeth/Paramus in the 50s-70s.
Of course stink is a good signal that something rotten is around. Not knowing that something stinks and still swilling the polluted lemonade is something else. Reminds me of the repuglican party. (Sorry to go all tagential on this, but it's true!)

(63,912 posts)put the art works of the city in peril. I did an essay on it and the destruction of a great work of art here at DU https://www.democraticunderground.com/10025059216
That was Florence, but I think the art world would have been on alert big time about the possibility of destruction of art from floods. I am appalled.
