Republican lawmakers distance themselves from Trump on memo

Source: Washington Post

Republican members of the House Intelligence Committee dissented Sunday from President Trump's view that corruption has poisoned the special counsel's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

In a sign of a growing rift within the House GOP, four members of the panel dismissed the idea pushed by Trump and other Republicans that a controversial memo criticizing how the FBI handled elements of its Russia probe undermines the investigation led by Robert S. Mueller III into possible coordination between Trump associates and the Kremlin. The memo's release Friday by the Intelligence Committee has raised fears Trump will fire Mueller or Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein, who oversees the probe.

Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), who helped draft the memo, said Trump should not fire Rosenstein and rejected the idea that the document has bearing on the investigation.

"I actually don't think it has any impact on the Russia probe," Gowdy, who also chairs the House Oversight Committee, said on CBS's "Face the Nation."

LOL! They all know that they are colluding with Trump and are just a bit embarrassed that Trump is so obvious about it. Of course, the more they collude, the more joined at the hip they become.

They are backtracking on the Nunes memo already. The FBI has my highest respect and shown so many times in dealing w/ interstate crimes and other crimes. No question at all about their integrity here.

15. Do the dems call & demand equal time & get rejected by the networks?

Or do they wait for an invitation?

I know you don't have the answer, but I'd like to know. We know the corporate owned networks have a right leaning bias, so what is the dem strategy to help compensate for that? They are US Congress members, after all. Why wouldn't a barrage of phone calls from US Senators & Reps, to network execs, demanding equal voice on the news shows, be answered with an invitation to come on the show?

Nunes should resign Monday. And the accomplices who hyped this deceptive memo ought to be called to account.

7. The main accomplice would be Speaker Paul 'effin Ryan.

Devin Nunes does NOTHING without Ryan's blessing.

Ryan gave him the Chairman's role on that committee and he can remove him TODAY if he so desired.

If Nunes loses his seat in November, then he's no longer the chairman of any committees. He would be replaced by another Republican if the GOP maintains their majority. However if the Democrats can flip enough seats next fall, then the GOP would lose their majority in the House and Ryan would no longer be the Speaker. Wouldn't that be an interesting development?

We have to get the vote out in November and flip those seats!

6. Then the question is, why even write a memo in the first place?

Why pick the FISA warrant on Carter Page? Page was identified in 2013 as a possible foreign agent/asset. The memo itself says that Papadopolous was the reason the investigation was opened into Russia in summer of 2016. Could there be something that was picked up in the surveillence that definitively links the Trump campaign to conspiring with Russia? That would make a lot more sense as a reason to discredit the FISA process using this particular case.

don't listen to them. Watch what they do about it, which will be to go along with whatever the orange shitgibbon wants.
Their speech says they are listening to the American public, but their actions are exactly opposite.

Vote them out!!

14. who other than Trey Gowdy distanced themselves ?

i think the reason Gowdy may have done is because he actually helped right it so he can go all in and defend the BS or he could try to save his career and say how it was never what they try to claim it is and leave congress and not deal with that and hope to still have a career .
