In Tampa visit, Attorney General Jeff Sessions recommends aspirin over opioids for pain relief

TAMPA — U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions has drawn jeers for suggesting that people in pain should consider over-the-counter Bufferin instead of opioids.

On Wednesday, Sessions was in Tampa, touting the Trump administration’s efforts to combat drug abuse and trafficking. This time, he broadened his suggestion to aspirin.

"I am operating on the assumption that this country prescribes too many opioids," Sessions said. "People need to take some aspirin sometimes."

Sessions delivered a 25-minute address at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Tampa, speaking to local police and federal prosecutors about the devastating impact of opioid abuse, including heroin and its high-powered cousin, fentanyl.

In years past I suffered many kidney stone attacks which does involve rather severe pain. Mine was able to be taken care of medically,(no aspirin or prayer involved) just really good doctors. At times they did prescribe strong pain killers for some relief but for a short time before medical procedures. I simply cannot imagine having to live with chronic pain day after day after day with no relief. There has to be some way for prescribing these drugs for those clearly in need separately from controlling the abuse. The answers are way above my pay grade but they must find them without harming others who legimitately need them.
And enough of the "take some aspirin sometimes" bullshite from someone anxious to prove he is an idiot.

There is an overreaction on opiod usage. I suffer from chronic back pain. I used to get a mild dose pill of oxicodone for when it got really bad. My doctor died and I had a new one. He was a younger doctor who refused to renew my prescription because of fear he would get heat for prescribing them. I never took enough or often enough to become addicted. Only took a pill when I really needed it for pain. But now I must just suffer through it.

Also I think, why is 'addiction' worse than suffering in pain? Even if my condition was worse and I had to take it often and in quantities that made me dependent on it, perhaps as in your situation. That word "addicted" has become so poisioned. Even though most of North America is addicted to caffeine, and that seems to be no problem. I'd rather be addicted to my pain relief than not have any pain relief.

I had a bad staph infection (now cured, thanks to strong antibiotics) and spent two months on norco. It took the edge off the pain and enabled me to walk since the infection was in my ankle.

Someone MUST be using Bufferin or they wouldn't still be making it.

But come on...someone needs to drop a 300-pound anvil on Jefferson Beauregard's toes, give him a bottle of Bufferin, and ask him the next day if he still thinks Bufferin is a replacement for opioids.

Here ya go! When the pain gets too bad, just bite on one of these. NO prescription necessary. Just stop by any ol' NRA Pharma-ass-ee and pick up some pain killers! Oh, and don't worry about that fake news about lead!

And while you're at it you diminutive orc, how about you just bite this? I guarantee it'll make you smarter! LOL!

As someone who has severe neuropathic pain down the entire left side of my body from a spinal cord injury at C 4-5 & know others online who suffer from severe chronic pain I can only hope one day he remembers he said something so fucking stupid! But he won’t...That is the problem with IDIOTS like Sessions they’re too fucking ignorant to know just how stupid the ideas they hold are!!!

Meanwhile millions suffer due to their stupidity!!
