Nikolas Cruz Identified as the Gunman in the Parkland School Shooting that Left 17 Dead
Written by Janet Shan on February 14, 2018
Police have identified the Parkland school shooting suspect at Nikolas Cruz (Nicolas Cruz), 19, who has been described as weird and creepy.
Cruz used a .223 caliber AR15-style firearm in the Florida school shooting that left 17 dead and up to 50 injured. He had multiple magazines. of ammunition. Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) said Cruz wore a gas mask and had hand grenades. He set off the fire alarms so the students would come out of the classrooms.
Cruz was expelled from the school last year for disciplinary reasons. He had some preoccupation with guns and had posted some disturbing things online. One teacher said Nicolas Cruz was identified as a potential threat to his classmates last year.
. . .
Student Ocean Parodie told The Daily Beast: He always had his hair short. He always wore like really patriotic shirts that seemed really extreme, like hating on the Islamic religion. For example, he would say things such as like, he would degrade islamic people as terrorists and bombers. Ive seen him wear a Trump hat. I dont know if he ever said anything about women. He didnt have any friends.

A lot of people were saying it was going to be him, he said. A lot of kids threw jokes around saying that he was going to be the one to shoot up the school. It turns out that everyone predicted it. Thats crazy.

(12,659 posts)de Jesus-Cruz could easily have been a family name since that time. And considering Florida history, it can be name expected to be found in such a well-off community.
As it is, the kid looks awfully, well, "European" - to be lumped into the "Dreamer" or the MS-13 stereotype for those MAGA types.
If I ignored the last name, I could easily see him as nephew of Hannity, Jones, Trump, Kelly, Murdoch, the Mercers...looks like a typical upper class Anglo kid who might have a bit of an "attitude problem".

(7,142 posts)The Cruz who I worked with in Pennsylvania was Puerto Rican. One of the hardest workers I ever worked with. Isn't Puerto Rico an American territory?
How about we talk about the "Latino" Marco Rubio instead?

The angry, leftist, socialist, democrats, have created a nation of victims. Victims who take their anger out upon the innocent. Protest, provoke, riot, resist, the democratic mantra.

(17,387 posts)Not only are Republicans fighting against gun control, but they are also cutting funding to special education programs that could assist teens with mental illness and autism.
A perfect recipe for more gun shootings. Easy access to guns plus rollbacks in services to youth with special needs.

WASHINGTON While House Republicans lined up votes Wednesday for a Thursday showdown over their bill to repeal the Affordable Care Act, Vickie Glenn sat in her Murphysboro, Ill., office and prayed for it to fail.
Ms. Glenn, a Medicaid coordinator for Tri-County Special Education, an Illinois cooperative that helps more than 20 school districts deliver special education services to students, was worried about an issue that few in Congress were discussing: how the new American Health Care Act, with its deep cuts to Medicaid, would affect her 2,500 students.
With all the sweeping changes the Republican bill would impose, little attention has been paid to its potential impact on education. School districts rely on Medicaid, the federal health care program for the poor, to provide costly services to millions of students with disabilities across the country. For nearly 30 years, Medicaid has helped school systems cover costs for special education services and equipment, from physical therapists to feeding tubes. The money is also used to provide preventive care, such as vision and hearing screenings, for other Medicaid-eligible children.
If I could have 10 minutes with President Trump, I could help him understand what we do, why its important, Ms. Glenn said. If he understood, he would protect it, because this isnt Republicans and Democrats. Its just kids.
