NPR 'On Point' Host Tom Ashbrook Fired Over Alleged Workplace Abuse

Source: The Daily Beast

Tom Ashbrook, the longtime host of National Public Radio’s On Point, which has more than two million listeners via 290 stations, was fired from Boston radio station WBUR on Wednesday for allegedly creating an abusive work environment. The move comes after Boston University, which operates the radio station, launched an investigation into Ashbrook’s behavior following several complaints against him in December. Both female and male staffers alleged that Ashbrook, who had been at the station for 16 years, engaged in bullying, verbal abuse, and unwanted touching. An internal investigation found that Ashbrook had not violated sexual harassment policies but did create an abusive work environment, according to a statement from Boston University. Ashbrook, who has been on leave from the station since December, called the decision “profoundly unfair” but apologized to “those who found the show’s pace and me just too much.”

I once worked at a company where the VP was the most abusive person I've ever met. A screaming, petty tyrant.

I actually saw him make MEN cry.

One of his favorite tricks was to march up to his victim and slam his hands on the unfortunate's shoulders and scream in that person's face.

The only time he tried that with me – with no conscious thought – I flipped his hands off me and shouted "don't do that!" Surprisingly, he just marched away with smoke coming out of his ears. My co-workers were goggle-eyed that I had done that, but obviously agreed that he had no right to touch people.

My entire career has been with a company that insists of professional behavior.

But if my boss did that to me, I would be fired and he would be bloody.
