Schiff: House Russia probe has evidence of collusion, obstruction

Source: The Hill

BY BRETT SAMUELS - 02/15/18 09:23 AM EST

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) said Wednesday that the House Intelligence Committee has an “abundance” of information that is not yet public, including evidence that the Trump administration colluded with Russia and obstructed justice.

“There is certainly an abundance of non-public information that we’ve gathered in the investigation. And I think some of that non-public evidence is evidence on the issue of collusion and some… on the issue of obstruction,” Schiff said, according to The Guardian.

Schiff, who is the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, said the panel has seen evidence of money laundering, but has been unable to further investigate. "As a former prosecutor, you follow the money. We have not been able to adequately follow the money," Schiff said.

The House Intelligence Committee is one of multiple congressional committees leading separate investigations into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

And if that doesn't happen on its own, the Democrats need to make it happen.
They need to be relentless.
Holding press conference after press conference.
Every time a Democrat at any level is interviewed on an MSM TV show they need to ask why the host of the show is not covering this.

We need to learn to use the media better.
Need to be as aggressive as Repugs at capturing the narrative.

I love Schiff. He's given a huge opportunity to other Democrats by saying this.

I would think that using collaboration would get more people's attention and get them to demand answers. If you think Trump and his minions are upset about the Mueller investigation, throw in the work collaboration and see what happens then.

It is a better word. Meanwhile, "collusion" has been overused and has lost it effectiveness.

…separates them. Collaboration is a crime. Collusion just looks bad, morally. I think Collaboration needs more proof, if you're going "to go there".

If Schiff had said collaboration and then there was no prosecutable proof, he'd lose credibility.

I'm glad he said even this. Dems are being far too circumspect.

23. Collusion likely a placeholder for conspiracy

Collusion has no legal definition and, as was said, that term is not a federal crime whatever it means. By itself, it suggests a secret unlawful agreement, but its a vague term of art because there's no definition.

If a lawyer is using the word, its in the context of a conspiracy charge. Conspiracy is a joint effort to commit an agreed to unlawful act. One of the parties has to show an overt act to implement the agreement. So for example, Trump agrees to drop sanctions in exchange for Russia leaking Clinton's emails. If nobody then does anything, there's no crime. If Trump drops sanctions or Russia leaks e-mails, its conspiracy.

I'm not sure what Schiff means, but Mueller's looking into conspiracy. Schiff may mean conspiracy, but may hesitate to use the term because he doesn't have the evidence, its Mueller's job to determine that, or he doesn't want to scare Trump into firing Mueller.

The formal, legal definition of treason is too narrow for what's been going on in the USA for the last 2 or 3 years.
Maybe it should be called Russian-mindfuck-treason.

Schiff may not have the means available to investigate this crime but Mueller and NY AG Scheiderman do!
He will go down for something either via Fed crimes or NY State crimes. No pardons will save him at the state level. HAH! Enjoy jail you fucking moron! I hope your family, and your rich, complicit pals like Manafort have all their assets seized before they join you in the pokey.

"Evidence of" (as the headline says) could be far different than "evidence on the issue of" (as the story says).

Not blaming the OP here, the OP just used the headline of the story as the thread title.

they already have evidence of collusion and obstruction. Imagine what would be uncovered if they had full access?
