Man accused of taking thumb from 2,000-year-old terra-cotta warrior
Source: CNN
A 2,000-year-old terra-cotta warrior valued at $4.5 million and considered a "priceless part of China's cultural heritage" is missing a thumb, but surveillance video helped lead the FBI to both the thumb and a suspect in the theft.
Michael Rohana of Delaware was arrested last week in the December theft.
Officials say Rohana went to Philadelphia's Franklin Institute on December 21 for an ugly sweater party hosted by the museum. During the evening, Rohana and a few of his friends entered the closed off terra-cotta warrior exhibit, and after his friends left, Rohana took a selfie with one of the statues, according to surveillance footage and court documents. He then put his hand on the left hand of one of the warriors and snapped something off, the documents said.
Rohana pocketed the warrior's thumb and took it home with him to Delaware that evening, officials said.

To me, this is emblematic of the lack of common decency and lack of integrity that now permeates what was once a noble Republic.

(17,288 posts)He should be prosecuted in the US by the museum and be required to make restitution. What an ignorant asshole the man is.

I mean, what a douche. Here this warrior statue is thousands of years old, and the Chinese government was good enough to allow us to display it for a time here, and this idiot goes in there and...breaks off its thumb.
You know, I wish we could send the guy to China to face charges. He's darned lucky it was here, I'll tell you that.

Honor is and old fashioned idea nowadays.

(4,352 posts)I wholeheartedly concur. From the corptocracy and politicians who want over 99% of Americans in dire poverty while they stuff their faces and lace their pockets, to school and other mass shootings, the theft of our elections and the divisions created with every group who think they deserve more than the rest of us and on and on. Oh, and let's not forget the nazis parading around as some legitimate "alt right" political group.
Then you get this brain dead twerp and other twerpettes across the country on an every day basis. I hope we can save what little noble is left and correct the course if this ship.

The detail on the warriors included treads on their shoes. He also had civil servants created to take with him as they are needed for a functional government.
