Gov. Eric Greitens, a Republican, faces a criminal investigation by St. Louis prosecutors after accusations were leveled last month that he tied up and blindfolded his lover, took a compromising photograph of her without her permission and then threatened to release it if she spoke of their affair.
Ellington's statement was a not-so-subtle jab at Greitens, and an example of how revelations surrounding the governor's infidelity continue to affect state business. Greitens resisted calls to resign when news first broke in January.
More than a month later, some lawmakers in the GOP-controlled Legislature are nonetheless floating the possibility of launching their own investigation if St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kimberly Gardner's ongoing probe results in any indictments of Greitens or his associates.
