Texas Wesleyan fires Mike Jeffcoat for rejecting recruit over Colorado pot laws
Source: ESPN
Texas Wesleyan University has fired baseball coach Mike Jeffcoat for sending an email to a high school prospect saying the school doesn't recruit players from the state of Colorado because of failed drug tests.
Jeffcoat, a former MLB pitcher, was fired for "his remarks as well as the NAIA violations under his watch," university president Frederick G. Slabach told reporters Thursday.
"This university and its athletic program does not discriminate on the basis of the public policy of any state," Slabach said. "We look at the individual student. We care about those students."
Jeffcoat wrote an email to the high school prospect, thanking him for his interest in the program.

(Mods, this is relevant, because it involved politics AND pot laws)
I say good, and add that Mr. Jeffcoat needs to be blackballed from coaching anywhere on a level that isn't higher than PeeWee baseball.

(2,957 posts)"You can thank your liberal politicians" the repressed fuckbag says in his email.
Well, I'd like him to know that Amendment 64, which legalized rec weed in CO, was passed by a popular vote and not politicians in the legislature. It passed 55% to 45% (not a landslide, but decisive) in a high turnout election. Among that 55% of yes votes were a significant number of Republicans - including Tom Tancredo, a conservative Republican who was strongly in favor of legalization.
Also, the Democratic, "liberal" governor of the state at the time was opposed to Amendment 64 and spoke out against it.
Fuck Jeffcoat. Fuck Republicans. Fuck conservatism. And fuck the United States...no, wait, God bless the United States of America. (Almost got carried away, there.)
It was passed as an amendment to the state constitution, meaning the legislature was not empowered to revoke it. And since that time a new amendment to the constitution was passed making it harder to get new amendments on the ballot, which means it is unlikely to be removed.
