Dolphins owner: Our players will be required to stand for anthem

Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross said Monday that all of our players will be standing for the national anthem next season.
Ross told the New York Daily News that while he originally supported players who chose to kneel during the anthem in protest of police brutality and racial inequality, he has since had a change of heart.
"Initially, I totally supported the players in what they were doing, he said. It's America and people should be able to really speak about their choices.
Ross released a statement in September calling for "unifying leadership" instead of "divisiveness" in response to President Trump criticizing the players taking a knee. Some Dolphins players were among the first to kneel last season.

(23,339 posts)They haven't played in a Superbowl since, well, never.
But, much of the profit comes from media money, split among the teams. I don't know if winning affects the split for a regular season. There may be more money for teams in the post-season.
Go, Lions.

(42,862 posts)The Lions attendance surge is probably more attributable to last years success. They went 9-7 and made the playoffs in 2016, with six of those wins coming at home. They also spent big in the offseason, signing two marquee free agents in Rick Wagner and T.J. Lang, and entered the 2017 season with their sights set on a division title. Another key development: Ford Field underwent $100 million in renovations, including the addition of two massive video boards behind each end zone. The spruced-up stadium has been an attraction like never before.
Go, Browns!

(1,714 posts)that players would stop playing to win just because they have to stand for a stupid song?
That wouldn't exactly be a great career move.

(62,413 posts)Does he force the coach to bench them?
Does he cut them from the team?
Does he trade them in a fire sale trade?
Does he tell the rest of the team to ostracize him?

(4,407 posts)Ross might want to put together a real organization because there aren't going to be anyone in the standing in the stands watching that sorry-ass team anyway.

So you think that this stadium is your private little state.......................wrong.................
I don't want the players to stand for a national anthem---------------its a fucking racists song...............
What are you paying for part time employees, health benefits, at the tax payer funded stadium................
November 2018 cannot get here fast enough

(5,526 posts)Ross is one of the few owners that has generally paid for his stadium. The most recent major renovation was $350 million on his dime.
I don't like his position at all but wanted to be fair on unrelated financing issues.

(70,503 posts).... thing is standing for the national anthem? Please this a wedge issue being pushed by
the right and Russia. Stephen Ross is trying to give Trump cover w/this bullshit over a
"non-problem."

Those players are free to quit, retire, or sign contracts for employment at other teams also.

(96 posts)And any employer that attempted to require it of you would be violating your civil rights. Also, if you're a contract employee your employer would be breaching your contract.

(11,919 posts)Exactly what civil rights would be violated?
Do you really think this falls under the 1st Amendment? If so, should I also be allowed to scream vulgarities at my boss and expect no repercussions?
Unless the employee is bound by a contract, they are generally considered "at will " employees and can be fired for refusing to follow a company policy like that or for a myriad of other reasons
The case you linked to specifically covers school children only and not private employers
