Parkland students planning more protests after March for Our lives

Students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School are planning the next round of protests, after hundreds of thousands of people gathered across the country on Saturday for the March for Our Lives.

David Hogg, a student at Stoneman Douglas, said Saturday that students were planning future protests on state capitols, according to The Washington Post.

They're also planning a walkout from school on April 20 in remembrance of the 1999 Columbine High School shooting. During the walkout, Hogg said student activists would be working to register eligible peers to vote.

2. I think these kids should venture into a nationwide voter registration movement

as well as this is where the REAL difference will happen come Nov 2018 and Nov 2020

register new voters and have them ALL vote the republicans OUT at state, local and national level. It will be a coup at the ballot box.

7. Yes. Demonstrations are great. It is democracy in action.

But the real democracy in action is voting.

I am reminded of the Occupy movement. I really thought that had legs. Now, they are a blip in history.

It is so so difficult to sustain the emotion, and drive of movements for years, even months it seems. And Republicans feed off of that predictable outcome. This time some of them, including Trump, felt compelled politically, to make a few weak promises. So I guess that's progress. But they will never act on them and are counting on their friend Time to dissolve any resolve. And other stories in the headlines, which Trump or they just create for that purpose, will be used to deflect and obfuscate.

But of course I wish them all the best and hopefully this time is different.

9. Yes they are registering new voters - I saw them yesterday in Pittsburgh

The March organizers in Pittsburgh had several volunteers on hand to get people registered to vote. They were mainly concentrating on the students because most of the adults were already registered. It seems that the March organizing team is getting good advice on how to go about this. Good coordination with people who are running the Women's March, etc.

There was no Democratic Party affiliation that I could see. However almost everyone who marched yesterday is already a Dem or at least very liberal-leaning.

6. Beyond that, focus on the NRA grade and voting record of any legislator -- Republican AND Democrat..

Hold signs at their offices -- Congress or local. Visit their offices. Call their offices. Pass fliers to your neighbors to list their votes on gun legislation.

This has to be made local and the politicians need to know that the spotlight isn't going away.
