Santorum: Instead of calling for gun laws, kids should take CPR classes

CNN commentator and former Pennsylvania GOP Sen. Rick Santorum on Sunday suggested students protesting for gun control legislation would be better served by taking CPR classes and preparing for active shooter scenarios.
"How about kids instead of looking to someone else to solve their problem, do something about maybe taking CPR classes or trying to deal with situations that when there is a violent shooter that you can actually respond to that," Santorum said on CNN's "State of the Union."

What the hell does he even mean, "looking for someone else to solve their problems"? That makes no sense at all!

(6,559 posts)That statement is the nutshell that lost Santorum his position in congress. He did not understand what his job was. There are still many in congress that are just as clueless!

(12,600 posts)One emergency room doctor that was interviewed said he was used to seeing the xrays of gunshot wounds -- a thin straight line across the image -- but the first time he saw one from a victim shot by an AR-15 he couldn't recognize any organs because the damage was so severe. "There was nothing left to repair."
We should make a website devoted to all the stupid things the NRA and GOP are going to say to attack the students (not just the Parkland ones, but all who are joining in the protest), including:
"If they're not old enough to vote, they're not old enough to participate in this discussion." (So, if you don't have a uterus, you don't have the right to make laws concerning women's bodies?)
Emma Gonzalez is a "skinhead lesbian." (The Republican candidate who said this dropped out the next day.)
And now Santorum suggests students learning CPR as an alternative to real action.
I'm sure there are more, and will be even more as the students ratchet up the pressure, and midterms get closer and closer. A man cannot serve two masters, and the Republicans are going to have to choose between the NRA and the 90% of the population who want sensible gun control laws.

(12,334 posts)Lil' Ricky didn't send his kids to public school, so he didn't have to worry about the shooting scenario. Santorum lived in Virginia for years, while billing the taxpayers of PA $100,000 for the kiddo's cyber schooling.

(2,050 posts)You don't perform it on a live person, you also break their ribs during CPR, great thing for someone full of holes already, especially when done by kids who are already traumatized.
This is why I don't watch cnn as they've hired a brain donor to spout nonsense on tv.
Isn't this the same idiot who once diagnosed Terry Schiavo while never having been in the same room?.

(14,594 posts)He says, "...instead of looking to someone else to solve their problem..."
Think about that for a minute. He and his right wingers HAVE CREATED THIS PROBLEM with their constant, unrelenting efforts to 1) portray the government as the enemy that people need to arm themselves against, and 2) increase profits for the shareholders in publicly held weapons manufacturing corporations.
It's always about money. Always.
Fortunately, very few take Santorum seriously anymore. Much like Pat Robertson and other fringe-right crazies, he has been pretty thoroughly discredited.

Thoughts and prayers and band aids and buy-bulls are all we need to bring gun shootings in schools under control and fully resolve this issue once and for all.

(1,204 posts)There is an ancient martial art that teaches people how to slow down time in order to avoid bullets. They demonstrated this time slowing technique in the documentary titled The Matrix. There is really no reason why we should not be teaching our kids how to use these powerful moves. All the other countries in the world teach their kids how to do this, and that is why they have so few gun deaths when compared to the US.

(3,515 posts)I am beginning to wonder why the emphasis on pro-life if he thinks once the babies are born, they are supposed to fend for themselves in a world that is allowed to be as dangerous to them as possible.
Somewhere I see a logic, but I don't like it.
Have lots of babies and then it's up to each of them to fight to survive. Let them learn CPR.
You can't perform CPR on yourself. And if you are being shot at by a powerful rifle, you have to get away. You can't stay behind to perform CPR on your best friend, sister, brother much less perfect stranger.
This is why we should not elect Republicans to public office.
They are stupid.
