Steve King's campaign criticizes Parkland survivor Emma Gonzalez
Source: CNN
Iowa Republican Rep. Steve King is facing heat after someone managing his campaign's Facebook page posted a meme on Sunday criticizing a Parkland student for donning a patch of the Cuban flag.
"This is how you look when you claim Cuban heritage yet don't speak Spanish and ignore the fact that your ancestors fled the island when the dictatorship turned Cuba into a prison camp, after removing all weapons from its citizens; hence their right to self defense," the meme said alongside an image of Cuban-American Emma Gonazlez, a survivor of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida, speaking at the March for Our Lives rally in Washington on Saturday.
In the comments section, someone managing King's Facebook page sparred with Brandon Wolf, one of the survivors of the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida.
"When it was my community, where were you?" Wolf asked. "When it was Sandy Hook?

But this is a century old attack where anyone who opposes fascists must obviously be a communist. And that these brave fascists are going to protect us from the communists who want to oppress us. We've seen this before. Nazis promised to protect Germans from being sent to communist camps.
Does anyone have a reputable source on gun laws and history in Cuba? Did Castro seize the guns and then brutally oppress everyone? People I know who have been there say it is quite peaceful with very little gun violence.

...As of Monday morning, the post is still up.
King's congressional office has not responded to CNN's request for comment, but told The Washington Post that the campaign team was responsible for the meme.

(2,004 posts)This is what is says about Cuba.
Regimes that havent engaged in genocidal acts (such as Cuba and Venezuela) will be excluded. Yes these countries have stiff gun control, but so does nearly every modernized country in the world, including England, Australia, Canada, France, Switzerland, Israel, etc.
Hope you find this helpful.

The home of the citizen militia as the answer to potential invaders?
However, the point still is valid: Totalitarian dictatorships like to arm their supporters and disarm those they seek to oppress.

(9,904 posts)After reading many of these replies, I came to the conclusion NO Congress critter would allow their workers to speak to possible constituents in this manner. I also read MANY NRA talking points within these replies.
My first reply to this Emma post was titles To Team NRA posing as Team King
Then I laid into them
All I got in reply was a OK Lol
Must have hit a nerve

(35,300 posts)But I've heard Congress critters speak in far worse terms about the constituents they don't represent or want to represent. And I've seen them roundly applauded for putting the mouthbreathers in their place.
Sometimes it's an (R) Congress critter; sometimes (D).
It's the partisan game: When you're out of power, your representatives had better damn well listen to you and represent you. But when you're in power, you answer to your base and supporters, and the losers are losers in nearly every possible way.
