Obama voiced by Jordan Peele in PSA video warning about fake videos

A startling video of former President Obama calling President Trump a “complete dipshit” is a coordinated stunt from filmmaker Jordan Peele as a public service announcement to warn about fake videos.

The video appears to show Obama beginning to issue a warning. However, viewers don't hear the former president's voice; instead, Obama’s lips move in sync with Peele's voice.

“We’re entering an era in which our enemies can make it look like anyone is saying anything at any point at time — even if they would never say those things,” Peele says voicing the former president.

“So, for instance, they could have me say things like, I don’t know, [‘Black Panther’s’] Killmonger was right!” Peele says as Obama. “Or, Ben Carson is in the sunken place! Or, how about this: Simply, President Trump is a total and complete dipshit.”

Is this total fakery without his participation? Or did Obama know this video was being made as a demonstration of fakery? I hope he knowingly took part in this so that people could understand how the fake videos get made.

This video is demonstrating the technology and techniques used to make the facial movements to create fake videos. I've heard about this for awhile, but haven't seen any actual videos from it.

If your question is if Obama signed off on this fakery being made, then I do not know. But either way, he would not have to be involved in the actual production of the video.

Did Jordan Peele take an old video of Obama and make a new (fake) audio track? Or was this done with Obama's participation where the script was provided to him in advance? I can't believe BO would say those things unless he knew the purpose of this video.

18. No to both. The tech is called deep fake

it uses a base of old videos (not just one you need a wide) but then the algorithm trains itself to mimic the movement of the principle. The more video they have to train on the better (hundred of hours works best.)

Then once the algorithm is trained you can have it watch Jordan speak and then make the Obama bot match his movements. Then the bot can be slid right into an older video as an overlay. So this is probably taken from an old video, but is in effect a new video and Obama wouldn't have had anything to do with it for it to work and he probably didn't.

20. Amazingly, this uses technology that can take anyone's image and make their face move with CGI.

There's was a segment about it on a news program (forgot which). They took the journalist's picture and made his face + mouth move as if he was talking as well. The voice is from the voice actor.

The point is, there will be a point when any video and audio can be convincingly faked to the point that it's impossible to tell CGI videos from real videos. We're probably a couple years away from that point. People will be able to create CGI videos of Obama attending a Nazi rally, and they will be indistinguishable from a real video to a human.
