Cruz, O'Rourke Too Close To Call In Texas Senate Race, Quinnipiac University Poll Finds

Source: Quinnipiac Polling Institute

The closely watched U.S. Senate race in Texas is too close to call, with 47 percent for Republican incumbent Sen. Ted Cruz and 44 percent for U.S. Rep. Beto O'Rourke, his Democratic challenger, according to a Quinnipiac University Poll released today.

There are wide party, gender, age and racial gaps, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN- uh-pe-ack) University Poll finds:
- O'Rourke gets 87 - 9 percent support from Democrats and 51 - 37 percent backing from independent voters, as Republicans go to Cruz 88 - 6 percent;
- Men back Cruz 51 - 40 percent, while women go 47 percent for O'Rourke and 43 percent for Cruz;
- Voters 18 to 34 years old go Democratic 50 - 34 percent, while voters over 65 years old go Republican 50 - 43 percent;
- White voters back Cruz 59 - 34 percent, as O'Rourke leads 78 - 18 percent among black voters and 51 - 33 percent among Hispanic voters.

Sen. Cruz gets lackluster grades, including a 47 - 45 percent job approval rating and a 46 - 44 percent favorability rating. O'Rourke gets a 30 - 16 percent favorability rating, but 53 percent of Texas voters don't know enough about him to form an opinion of him.

If we win this seat, it significantly increases our chances of taking the Senate. And it's our best chance of dumping Lyin' Ted.

I'm going to make sure that every damn person I know is registered to vote.

The solution is to educate the 53 % who "Don't know enough about him to form an opinion of him."

choose their candidate based upon surname. If you examine the results of the primary race on a county map, O'Rourke lost to Sema Hernandez in the counties along the Rio Grande River which have the highest concentration of Hispanics. Meanwhile, O'Rourke fared better in areas with a larger concentration of Anglos.

It is going to confuse some of the uninformed voters when they see a Republican with a Hispanic surname and a Democrat with an Anglo surname of the ballot since it usually is the reverse in most elections in Texas. There is a big job to accomplish over the next six months to educate the voters, but I'll be the optimist and say that we can get it done.

It would be helpful to let voters know that Beto is a native Texan and Ted Cruz is a Cuban born in Canada and NOT a Mexican-American

He's another serial liar, destroying all health care, voted for the tax scam giving billions to the wealthy we'll have to pay for, destroying Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and all programs other than the ones that'll enrich themselves with. Cruz is the most hated person in all of Congress, and for good reasons, he's another con man, fast slick talking liar like trump is. I think his ship has sailed and he'll be voted out. A lot of people giving to and voting for Beto, someone that CAN be trusted because Cruz and Trump sure the hell can't be. I predict this will continue to worsen for Cruz as every day his party does nothing to trump, who is destroying our Democracy. I don't vote for anyone like Cruz who backs the Russians over America either, or refuses to protect our Democracy.

Winning this race will cost a lot. We also need some friends to campaign with O'Rourke. I wonder if Doug Jones would be willing to help out (would help with white males, I think).
