Robert Mueller asks for 2 more months before Michael Flynn sentencing

Source: CNN

The special counsel's office wants two more months before it looks toward sentencing former national security adviser Michael Flynn, who has pleaded guilty to lying to investigators and is cooperating in the Russia probe.

"Due to the status of the special counsel's investigation, the parties do not believe that this matter is ready to be scheduled for a sentencing hearing at this time," Robert Mueller's prosecutors and Flynn's lawyers told the DC federal court on Tuesday.

Flynn pleaded guilty five months ago. Prosecutors have previously delayed scheduling his sentencing.

On Tuesday, they said they would provide an update to the court no later than June 29.

Special counsel Robert Mueller has asked to extend the deadline for sentencing former national security adviser Michael Flynn, according to documents filed Tuesday, suggesting that Flynn remains an active cooperator in the investigation of potential collusion between President Donald Trump's campaign and Russian efforts to interfere in the 2016 election.

2. Exactly. Mueller is going to use him -- and the other guilty pleaders --as long as he needs to.

Meanwhile Trump and his cronies are running roughshod over the country, cancelling laws that actually protect people, destroying everything that makes life worthwhile here. So yeah, another two months? Who cares?

Several months ago I heard something on NPR that suggested that in the end Muller would file a report and leave it up to Congress to take action. So far, I'm not seeing a lot of contradictory evidence.

6. Five guilty pleas and four cooperating witnesses is contradictory evidence.

This is light years beyond Watergate, and we don't control Congress so Congress hasn't been helping. Why do you think this should be faster than Watergate?

of investigative articles in The Washington Post for some six months, until Congressional hearings were held. It wasn't until Alexander Butterfield revealed the existence of the taping system in the Oval Office a year after the Watergate break-in, that things really started to unravel and it became clear that Nixon's tenure was going to end before the next election.

And for that first year or so almost no newspaper other than the Washington Post was covering the story. So it really flew under the radar of a lot of people for that period of time.

Meanwhile, we've been reading and hearing on a daily basis of all of this stuff: the meetings with Russians, Trump's brazen disregard of so many norms, his own children being in clear cahoots with all sorts of despicable people, payoffs to porn stars.

If anyone is currently in prison over all of this, I've managed to miss that. Cooperating witnesses and guilty pleas (again, why aren't they in jail?) are all from relatively small players.

Unfortunately, the real problem is that Congressional Republicans are quite happy having an incompetent in the White House, and so they are not about to do anything about him so long as they are in power.

I realize it's a good thing that Mueller and his team are moving with great care and deliberation, but despite all of the stories we keep on hearing about sealed indictments, we haven't seen any of those yet. It's not that I think this should play out faster than Watergate, it's that it feels as if nothing is happening. It's not so much that Trump is still President, it's that while he's in office he and all those he's put in place around him are doing everything possible to take away just about everything that makes life decent in this country. Defund schools. Cut or perhaps eliminate Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security. Once those things are gone there will be no getting them back.

13. Some of the indictments we've already seen were sealed before they were unsealed.

You just haven't seen as many as you think we should have seen by now.

Perhaps a better comparison is to a major mob corruption case, spanning several continents. How many of those went faster than the Mueller investigation? Because that's what he's dealing with.

The Russian mob in NY began to push the Italian mob aside several decades ago. And the Russian mob is closely tied to Putin and his oligarchs. So Putin has used his mob connections to link with DT and the GOP in Congress and flip the election. This is light years beyond anything we were dealing with in Watergate.

And, unfortunately, in a mob prosecution investigators have to start near the bottom and work toward the top. And while you think we're not getting anywhere, Mueller is quietly working with the people he's already grabbed at lower and mid levels to get those at the top.

I know how you're feeling; it's a helpless, frustrating situation. But we should be challenging all those feelings into working on our states election drives, so an overwhelming vote in the fall can displace the GOP Congress, despite all the GOP and Russian efforts to tamper with it.

Guiliani helped bring down the Italian mob, but was he actually helping clear the way for the Russian mob to take over? I know that's a crazy conspiracy theory but the coincidence just seems interesting to me.

And this is painful to hear. That even Flynn's sentencing is months away.

But it would probably be the best if the investigation didn't end before the mid-terms, so that Donnie and the Republicans couldn't rally their deplorables to defend their poor attacked dear leader. At least it wouldn't be quite the frenzy. Then just after Democrats take the House, Mueller throws the book at him. That would be the best outcome. But it means we must wait even longer.

I really hope you have got this all planned out...because...man...he's been FREAKING SLOW. I get this gnawing fear that he'll take to long to line his ducks in order...and never will get the chance to shot the ducks because Trump fired him or something happened.

Hurry the hell up, Bob...
