Giuliani: Trump reimbursed Cohen for $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels
Source: The Hill
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) said Wednesday that President Trump reimbursed his personal attorney Michael Cohen the $130,000 paid to adult film star Stormy Daniels to stay quiet about their alleged affair.
Giuliani, who recently joined Trumps legal team, told Fox News Sean Hannity that the payment was perfectly legal and was not campaign money, meaning the arrangement didnt violate campaign finance law.
Funneled through a law firm, and the president repaid it, Giuliani said.
"He didnt know about the specifics of it but he did know about the general arrangement, that Michael would take care of things like this," he said.
Cohen has said that he made the payment, but that it was made with money out of his own pocket.

This shit would be funny if it were not so disgusting. The women that trump has used and damaged is appalling.

(3,433 posts)This would mean that Trump is guilty instead of Cohen for the illegal contribution. Who knows what the real truth is. I guess they are figuring that if this is the worst he charged with, he will take it, but it's a long shot.
That may be the reason for the question leaks, giving Cohen one more hail Mary by saying he can't get a fair trial because of all the leaks.

(36,827 posts)The FBI has Cohens bank records so perpetuating the lie was going to become untenable eventually anyway.
Sounds more like part of a scheme to leave Cohen as the one without a chair when the music stops.

(7,286 posts)Everyone is making a parade about it, but they had to do this, it was an illegal campaign contribution otherwise.
So they did it their way.
None of this matters to Trump supporters. Avanetti says ' Americans should be outraged'

(3,515 posts)How much money did Trump pay Cohen that was related to the whole matter.
Was the work on the Storm agreement just part of Cohen's work on his salary from the Trump organization? Was it personal work for Trump, and did Trump pay for it in some way that was separate and not part of the pay Cohen received from the Trump company or companies?

(9,170 posts)"That was money that was paid by his lawyer, the way I would do, out of his law firm funds or whatever funds, it doesnt matter. The president reimbursed that over a period of several months.
Rudy, if you are paying settlements out of "law firm funds," and then getting reimbursed by the client "over a period of several months(?)" you are committing an ethics violation. You can pay the settlement out of your trust account, but you cannot front the money. The client pays you, you deposit it in your trust account, wait for it to clear if it was by check, and THEN AND ONLY THEN, can you pay out to the other party.
Do it the other way, and your trust account will be overdrawn. I don't know about New York, but in Iowa we have to certify to the Supreme Court annually that our trust accounts have not been overdrawn, and if they have, you have to explain why. In addition, the trust accounts are subject to periodic surprise audits.
And why was it reimbursed over a period of months? Supposedly $130,000 is pocket change to Trump. Why didn't he just write a check for the amount? Were they trying to avoid the $10,000 amount that triggers reports to the government? That's a crime called structuring. You can go to jail for that -- ask Denny Hastert. Trump tried to explain it in a tweet as a monthly retainer, but he apparently doesn't understand what the word means.
