WHCA Fires Back Over Latest Trump Press Threat: Would Be 'Unconscionable Assault' to 1st Amendment

President Trump went after the press today because, well, it’s a day that ends in Y:

In addition to that seeming conflation of “negative” and “fake,” the President also seems to be threatening to revoke credentials from certain press outlets.

The White House Correspondents Association released a statement this afternoon expressing concern about Trump’s threat:

Some may excuse the president’s inflammatory rhetoric about the media, but just because the president does not like news coverage does not make it fake. A free press must be able to report on the good, the bad, the momentous and the mundane, without fear or favor. And a president preventing a free and independent press from covering the workings of our republic would be an unconscionable assault on the First Amendment.

Let Fox and any other fake news outlets have him all to their selves. Start reporting honestly the danger in which he is putting the nation's security and economy, report on the positive changes Democrats propose to make health care affordable, provide more jobs, work with allies to make the world a safer place, regulate corporations and banks to protect consumers and stabilize the economy, and build on the great steps forward Obama took during his 8 years in office.
