Iran's supreme leader reveals private letter Trump sent to Arab allies

Source: Washington Post

Iran's supreme leader revealed on Wednesday an unpublicized letter sent recently by President Trump to countries in the Middle East, raising questions about how Ayatollah Ali Khamenei came to know about private correspondence between the U.S. leader and his allies in the region.

The day after Trump announced his intention to withdraw from the 2015 nuclear accord with Iran, Khamenei sent a tweet that claimed Trump had written a letter to leaders of Persian Gulf Arab states “a few days ago” that demanded they do more in the region. “I spent $7 trillion and you must do something in return,” the Iranian leader claimed the letter stated. The comments appeared to be directed at Persian Gulf countries such as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates — close allies of the Trump administration and, alongside Israel, the most vocal outside critics of the agreement that Iran reached with the United States and five other nations in 2015.

“A couple of days ago, Trump wrote a letter to the leaders of the Arab world. We have that letter,” the ayatollah said. “In the letter, he says I have spent $7 trillion on you, you have to do [what I say]. You spent this money to rule over Iraq and Syria. You couldn’t. To hell with it. He says you should do it and says Iran 'should' do it, too.”

The letter has not been publicly acknowledged by the White House, and a spokesman for the National Security Council said it could not comment on presidential correspondence. However, a senior administration official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he did not have permission to discuss the matter publicly, said the Trump administration sent a letter to Persian Gulf Arab allies about two weeks ago.

"I have spent $7 trillion on you" ...could he possibly be referring the money we have spent on our illegal war in Iraq, because if that's what he's referring to those leaders are going to be aghast and offended.

5. ...And YOU spent those $7 trillion, Cheeto!?

As far as we know, while Dubya was spending us into bankruptcy in Iraq and Afghanistan, you evaded 90%+ of your taxes Donald.

The U.S. spent that money - not you.

8. Think fast: what shows more incompetence? Trump's "diplomacy" or the Keystone Kops?

If you answered quickly, something's wrong, because there IS no obvious answer.

10. In a sense, it is better that he said "I" and not "We"

In the sense that it is him speaking for himself.

It is very unwise to insult and disrespect certain cultures. Rudeness is a big insult.

He has made another colossal blunder. This is not how you negotiate with friends or allied

12. Trump boils everything down to money. He's used pay-to-play schemes

throughout his business career, so it is not surprize that he is using the same tactics in politics. Whether he was buying off people who were suing him, or threatening Stormy Daniels with a multimillion dollar penalty, Trump always looked out for his own interests first. self first.

Why wouldn't he try to shakedown the leaders of the ME? It's no different than he and Cohen putting the squeeze on corporations that have their business fortunes tied to government contracts or regulatory changes.
