1 dead, 1 injured in shooting near high school graduation, police say
Updated May 18, 2018 By Zachary Hansen, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
One person has died and another has been shot in a parking lot across the street from Mt. Zion High School, police said. The two people shot were not students.
There was a graduation ceremony happening across the street at the Clayton County Performing Arts Center, Channel 2 Action News said. The shooting happened after the graduation concluded, and an arguement led to the shooting, police told Channel 2.

Both people shot were adult women, Channel 2 reported. One was shot in the leg and the other was shot three times. It is unclear if they were attending the graduation or not.
Police told the news station an argument led to the shooting.

The headline has changed. This was originally pushed as a school shooting. People are understandably on edge about another one after all school shooting the NRA has allowed this year.
Will update
This youtube video says an alternative school near the high school was having its graduation tonight, 3 people shot, 1 dead.

CLAYTON COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -
A woman is dead after a shooting in the parking lot of Mt. Zion High School in Clayton County.
Officials say while the shooting occurred on the property of Mt. Zion High School, the incident involved individuals at a graduation from another school nearby.
In addition to the woman who was killed, two additional women were shot, although their conditions are unknown.
"All of the sudden, we all heard a series of gunshots," said witness Shannon Delgado. "We didn't know where they were coming from. Everybody just kind of froze, then we didn't hear police, we heard more gunshots, but like a lot, like, 'Pow, pow, pow, pow.' That's when we saw the cops, who were on the premises where the graduation was rush across the street because they were in the high school parking lot."

(5,644 posts)It has been shown that most of the people who mimic crimes seen in the media (especially news and violent movies) have in most cases prior criminal records, prior severe mental health problems or histories of violence suggesting that the effect of the media is indirect (more affecting criminal behaviour) rather than direct (directly affecting the number of criminals).[7] However that indirect influence that the media has on the individual does give them the idea of how to commit the crime. The type of reaction that the media coverage gives crimes can determine the path another criminal might take. This is because most copy-cat criminals are intent on the shock value of their actions. They want to do something that will cause a high media coverage because of the attention that they will get, as well as the horror of the population. If going on a shooting rampage in a public space causes this attention (because of previous incidents), then an individual with the tendency to commit the crime will more likely take that path.[8]

(35,300 posts)they're different kinds of shit.
One's a mass shooting by somebody who set out to kill people because of some grievance against society. It's like "going postal" in the '80s and like most of the other mass school shootings.
The other's a non-mass shooting by somebody who was mad at a particular person over a particular event in the context. It's no different from what happened a mile or two from my home at a 7-11 kind of place, or a mile farther along at an apt. complex. But we don't hear about how horrible all these "mass convenience store shootings" or "mass apartment complex shootings" are (esp. since they weren't mass, which has been defined downward to include as many incidents as possible. Soon I expect one death to be considered "mass" .
Yes, all murder is wrong, but if you're looking for understanding before action, the first thing you need to do is get the categories right so you know what you're talking about. Of course, we're going to talk and we're going to act, but it might be nice if we had the option to try for understanding.
