Roseanne Reruns Dropped by Hulu, CMT, and More Networks
Source: New York Magazine
After ABC announced earlier today that it canceled Roseanne, Viacom has decided to pull reruns of the shows new episodes from its outlets CMT, TV Land, and the Paramount Network, according to The Hollywood Reporter. As a result of star Roseanne Barrs racist social-media comments from this morning, the Laff network is following suit, and will cease airing episodes from the shows original run (seasons one through nine). The network made the following statement, While we believe viewers have always distinguished the personal behavior of the actress Roseanne Barr from the television character Roseanne Connor, we are disgusted by Barrs comments this week. Therefore, we are removing the original Roseanne series from the Laff schedule for the time being, effective immediately. Barrs talent agency, ICM Partners, also dropped her this afternoon.
Update: In a statement to THR, Hulu confirmed that it too will be pulling episodes of Roseanne from its streaming service, with a spokesperson saying, We support ABCs decision and are removing the show from Hulu.

(37,648 posts)This then costs her and the others who appeared in her old show ...cost in residuals. Big money.
I'm surprised by THIS move, because she's always been controversial. But good. What she tweeted was inexcusable and disgusting. There's no place for that in this country.
They'll put it back in circulation later.
But yay...Trump lost a YUGE propaganda machine for the mid-terms.

(26,351 posts)Odds are in 6 months to 2 year at most they will be back showing the old episodes.

(37,648 posts)But missing residuals for 6 months or so is something, at least. On top of the current show being cancelled. Sweet.

(37,648 posts)that they won't feel the hit. I'm sure that'll make her think twice. She really cares about her coworkers & friends.

(180 posts)CW is still hurting from The Cosby Show being yanked. They must be thinking they inherited the show business equivalent of a plague of locusts.
Not just the US, either: Australia's TEN TV Network dumped her, too.

(37,648 posts)I guess with the conviction, it was pulled? 38 women telling how he assaulted them didn't do it?
I'm still perplexed by Hogan's Heroes is on. He'd been a sex addict and druggie and involved in videotaping all sorts of kinky sex & such with various women, and even orgies. There was something wrong with him. He lost his marriage, his home...still had his job, though. He was consumed with women's sexual parts...he'd even mention that in casual conversation with women he didn't know. And we see him on tv acting all funny & decent? That didn't compute to me.

(3,286 posts)They signed contracts, after all, and it wasn't their behavior that caused the cancellation. Kevin Spacey got paid more than Robin Wright for the final season of House of Cards even though they killed his character off. I'm still a bit stunned that she worked, he didn't, and he earned more. Contract law is a hell of a thing.
As for the rest of the cast, I think the poorest of them (relative term) has a net worth of $2-3 million. So they're hardly going to go hungry. Must be nice to lose your job and still be set for life. In any event, they'll probably still get their salary for the cancelled season.

(37,648 posts)She's controversial and a Trumper. So they had to know there was a chance of backlash.

(7,539 posts)I hadn't seen the original run of Rosanne, but it has started showing up on cable networks. TVLand, I think? This will lose Rosanne (and the networks) a lot of revenue because this period of time would be when they should normally capitalize on the revival's buzz.

You can't stop people from thinking these things, but at least we should not be subjected to them verbalizing their little turds of hatred.

for at least 3 hours each night. This will hurt but I am sure she doesn't need the money. If she cares about her "image" more than the money, than maybe this will have a very slight effect. Will & Grace did a reboot and hasn't had this PR problem and I doubt the new Murphy Brown reboot will either. The actors on those shows aren't deplorables with a megaphone like Barr.
*Currently, LAFF has reruns of Night Court in place of Roseanne tonight but The Guide still lists "Roseanne".

Well, I guess all those confederate conservatives posting earlier online that the 2nd Season would be picked up by another network... No so fucking much.

I remember Tom Srnold talking about those tapes during the election. Hes lucky he got away from the rude and racist Roseanne.

(15,805 posts)No more checks coming in from all her reruns and no new work will be offered because she's poison now. She can kiss her income goodbye. I hope she had a clause in her contract with ABC that will let them cancel her show for cause without having to pay her off.

(3,286 posts)She's hardly gonna starve in the street. She'll probably shrug her shoulders, sell her house, and buy a ranch somewhere in East Galoshes Corners to settle down in retirement. And she'll do so in far greater comfort than most.
While it's good that her platform has been knocked from beneath her, this isn't going to inconvenience her much.

It was absolutely correct to cancel her current show.
But why cancel her reruns? Her old shows didn't show the Trumpian racism, and actually were quite humane -- plus incredibly funny.
Too reminiscent of the tendency of certain sectors of the left to drown out public speakers with heckling.

(6,402 posts)Hence the networks lose money.
Or places like Hulu get awareness campaigns run against them and they lose subscribers.
That's why.
