Ron Paul tweets racist cartoon, faces backlash

Former Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) on Monday tweeted, then deleted, a racist cartoon depicting minorities with stereotypical features punching Uncle Sam.

The cartoon features a Jewish man with a hooked nose, a black man with exaggerated lips, an Asian man with slanted eyes and a man who looks like a neanderthal punching Uncle Sam and yelling “cultural Marxism!”

“Are you stunned by what has become of American culture?” Paul said in the tweet. “Well, it’s not an accident. You’ve probably heard of ‘cultural Marxism,’ but do you know what it means?”

Paul faced enormous backlash on social media, with some people drawing parallels between the image and Nazi propaganda.

I clicked this post thinking it was something with implied racism and was being overblown by the left, but this is ridiculous. If Ron Paul didn't think this was overtly racist, he doesn't deserve a seat on the US Congress. "Earlier today a staff member posted an offensive cartoon on my social media. I do not make my own social media posts and when I discovered the cartoon the member was immediately fired".

No one believes that was "inadvertently posted" or that it was a "mistake". It's just about possible that the racist staffer made it public when they meant to keep it private among Paul's tight circle of racists - I've never used Twitter's DM facility so I've no idea how easy it is to mistake public tweeting for it.
