Texts Reveal Ohio State's Urban Meyer Knew His Aide Abused Wife in 2015: Report

The Buckeyes coach claims he was ‘never told anything’ about his fired assistant’s allegations. A series of text messages among his staff’s wives reveals he was in the loop.

Ohio State football’s head coach Urban Meyer knew in 2015 about domestic-abuse allegations against Zach Smith, his longtime assistant who was fired last week, according to a report from college-football reporter Brett McMurphy.

McMurphy reportedly obtained screenshots of text messages between Smith’s ex-wife and the wives of other Ohio State coaches that demonstrate Meyer’s knowledge of the situation.

As recently as last week, Meyer said he had limited knowledge of Smith’s domestic-violence history, including two incidents in 2015 that the nearby Powell Police Department investigated.

Smith, a former wide-receivers coach, recruiting coordinator, and longtime member of Meyer’s staff, was served last week with a domestic-violence civil protection order filed by his ex-wife. Sports Illustrated reports that Smith is now prohibited from going within 500 feet of Courtney Smith for at least five years. ................................

“I was never told about anything,” Meyer said last week during Big Ten Media Days. “Never anything came to light, never had a conversation about it. So I know nothing about it. I asked people back at the office to call and see what happened, and they came back and said they know nothing.”

Meyer did concede on July 24 that he was aware of 2009 abuse allegations against Smith, when he was on Meyer's staff at the University of Florida. In that incident, Smith allegedly shoved his pregnant wife against a wall during an argument. He was arrested but never charged, according to Cleveland.com...................................

OSU = Ohio State University (assuming Ohio) in Columbus, OH
OU = Ohio University (again assuming Ohio) in Athens, OH and no relation.

Note there is also an Oregon State University referred to as OSU, but we're talking Ohio in this scandal.

6. I love my school, but to say it has issues is an understatement.

Not the least of them being all of the Republicans on the OSU Board of Trustees. Doesn't help that Kasich has been Ohio Governor for the past 8 years either--so many of them are his political appointees. It makes a difference in how the entire school is run and how it handles its own business.

I know many people seem to think Kasich is really mild compared to Trump and many of the other Republican buffoons, but he's cut from the same woman-hating cloth as that entire misogynistic lot. They're all part of the same culture that perpetuates violence and abuse of women.

8. I read this story and a couple of others. Urban Myer is a fucken liar. He's toast..

Why? The wife of the assistant who did the abuse...told Urban's wife about the abuse. The person abused, Courtney Smith , (Zach Smith's wife) had some conversations with Urban's wife about the abuse. Although Urban's wife never said that she told her husband, Courtney did believe that that Urban Meyer knew about Zack Smith's abuse, since there was a court order of protection against Zack. It is truly an ugly story. I would be very dubious when Urban Meyer again denies knowing. They university is going to investigate this. But if Courtney told Urban's wife, then it will be the wife's problem if she says she didn't tell her own husband about one of his closest employees, his assistant coach abusing his wife.
