West Hollywood City Council: Remove Trump's star from Walk of Fame
Source: CBS News
The West Hollywood City Council unanimously passed a resolution Monday night urging the removal of President Trump's star from the Hollywood Walk of Fame, reports CBS Los Angeles. The resolution calls on the Los Angeles City Council and Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to remove Mr. Trump's star "due to his disturbing treatment of women and other actions that do not meet the shared values of the City of West Hollywood, the region, state, and country." Mr. Trump received the star in 2007 for his work producing the Miss America Pageant and before he starred in TV's "The Apprentice". Since then, the street plaque has been vandalized several times and completely destroyed twice, most recently last month by a man with a pickax. Austin Clay, 24, was charged Monday with one felony count for allegedly vandalizing the star and faces up to three years in jail if convicted as charged. Initiated by West Hollywood Mayor pro tempore John D'Amico and Councilmember Lindsey Horvath, the resolution cites several reasons for getting rid of the star, including Mr. Trump's views on climate change, his border family separation policy, treatment of transgender people and his handling of the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. 1. Good for the West Hollywood City Council.
tRump's star has been vandalized multiple times and destroyed twice since 2007. The removal of his star has been discussed over the years due to those incidents.
Other stars whose stars have been vandalized include: Bob Marley Mariah Carey Hugh Hefner Bill Cosby Sophia Vergera John Lennon Harry Houdini Ed McMahon Ashley and Mary Kate Olson Sharon Stone |

4. These comments were written in the article I found:
John Lennon - “Morons did it,” Lomax said, calling the writings “rather tacky.” The messages were scrawled in different colors of ink, which suggested that they were written by a group according to Lomax."
Harry Houdini - "The star was unveiled in 1975 and had been undisturbed until Halloween night 2000, when it mysteriously cracked. It has since been repaired, thanks to David Copperfield, Penn & Teller, Siegfried and Roy, and others who paid for the restoration." |

5. Thanks for responding.
Trump should never have been offered a star to begin with, and I’m glad the council members voted the way they did.

15. Dumb fans wrote graffiti on John Lennon's
and cracked Harry Houdini's in a halloween prank
For example, when someone puts a swastika on Trump's star, is it a supporter or protester? ![]() |

7. Per their quote, they need to purge the Walk of several other Stars as well. Why not?
Kevin Spacey, Cosby, etc
Their statement when asked about this last year, at the height of the MeToo movement, was this: “The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has received inquiries asking whether we are planning to remove the stars of Walk of Famers because of alleged misconduct. The answer is no,” said Leron Gubler, Hollywood Chamber of Commerce president and CEO. “The Hollywood Walk of Fame is a registered historic landmark. Once a star has been added to the Walk, it is considered a part of the historic fabric of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Because of this, we have never removed a star from the Walk.” So if they keep to this statement, trumps star will remain in place to be laughed at daily |

12. The problem is,
the stars are not placed there by a committee who vote or decide who should be 'honoured'.
They are simply purchased. Trump or one of his minions will have paid the requisite fee, and the committee accepted it. It is not in anyway an honour 'bestowed'. It is a cash transaction and Trumps star has been bought and paid for. |

24. ...the bigger problem is that the star is not in the city of West Hollywood.
This vote is purely symbolic.
The star is in the Hollywood neighborhood of Los Angeles. |

18. West Hollywood cannot remove Trump's star
West Hollywood cannot remove Trump's star
They voted for it's removal, but the star is in Hollywood, in Los Angeles. In the past, Hollywood has refused to remove stars. It's as if Pittsburgh, Boston, Chicago, etc voted for the removal. |

21. I say leave it. He has to pay to repair it and it can serve as a focus for the creative ire of
American patriots who will be constantly defacing the "star". It will also begin to devalue to entire Walk of Fame until it's removed from the list of National Historic Landmarks. So, the pinheads at the Hollywood CofC will cook their own goose, so to speak.
I love the Walk of Fame, but having learned from Herr trump the true nature of the stars, that they're bought by the rich and famous rather than awarded, and that the custodians have no couth or patriotism, I'm eager to see the icon fall from grace and rise from the ashes as a better representation of truly memorable Americans in media. |
