New Trump administration directive lets federal contractors discriminate against LGBT people

Source: Raw Story

A new Trump administration directive allows anti-LGBT discrimination among federal contractors. The directive specifically exempts any faith-based organization – a “religious corporation” – that has a federal contract from anti-discrimination requirements, and wrongly cites the Supreme Court’s ruling in the Masterpiece Cakeshop decision to do so.

The new policy memo directs OFCCP staff reviewing contracts and contractors that they “cannot act in a manner that passes judgment upon or presupposes the illegitimacy of religious beliefs and practices” and must “proceed in a manner neutral toward and tolerant of . . . religious beliefs.”

Shannon Minter, legal director for the National Center for Lesbian Rights, adds that the memo is actually contrary to established law. “This directive seems designed to undermine the current requirement that federal contractors may not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran,” Shannon Minter, legal director for the National Center for Lesbian Rights, told INTO. “In the past, the Department of Labor has made clear that religious contractors may prefer members of their religion, but may not discriminate on any of those bases.”

And the Human Rights Campaign in a Monday night email says the DOL is “encouraging federal contractors to discriminate against their LGBTQ employees.” HRC notes that at “the same time” the new directive was published, the “DOL also removed information from its website concerning frequently asked questions about nondiscrimination protections for LGBT people and the limited scope of allowable religious exemptions.”

But the damage of preventing gay people from working and contributing to a company's success will eventually cause an organization to rot from the inside.

If you employ deplorables and forbid gays it will catch up with you. Both economically and karmicly.

They were deplorable before that was even a thing. They had giant Bible verses on the sides of the building and a banner that said "We don't have a problem with the color of Obama's skin, we have a problem with his Marxist, socialist policies."

Needless to say that company is no longer in business.

Yeah you're a fucking racist if you have to say that!

And the other thing - they had a prime location at a major freeway intersection. How hard is that to fuck up?

... need to be hunted down and destroyed in social media.

Treat them just like the Nazis, make it difficult for them to find work.

And openly discriminate against minorities.

My current program has several gay managers and workers. If they got sacked, this place would fall apart real quick.

ASSHOLE. He is not the President of the People, he is a weak coward that needs to be thrown into prison until he rots on the vine.

Opposing LGBTQ rights is huge among certain sectors on the right, and those strongly opposed are also found in all major power groups, including the ultrawealthy.

Just hope this is one more straw on the pile growing between some of the conservatives who've always voted as the Republican base does and that base.
