Trump cancels military parade, plans to attend parade in Paris

Source: The Hill

President Trump said Friday that he is cancelling his plans for a military parade on Veterans' Day, adding that he will instead attend a planned Armistice Day parade in Paris.

The president tweeted that "ridiculously high" costs quoted by local Washington, D.C. politicians had forced the Trump administration to reconsider its plans for a large-scale military parade honoring current and former service members.

"The local politicians who run Washington, D.C. (poorly) know a windfall when they see it. When asked to give us a price for holding a great celebratory military parade, they wanted a number so ridiculously high that I cancelled it. Never let someone hold you up! I will instead attend the big parade already scheduled at Andrews Air Force Base on a different date, & go to the Paris parade, celebrating the end of the War, on November 11th," Trump wrote.

"Maybe we will do something next year in D.C. when the cost comes WAY DOWN," he added. "Now we can buy some more jet fighters!"

Shittery did not cancel the parade

Pentagon delays Trump's big military parade until at least 2019

The Defense Department said late Thursday that President Donald Trump's planned military parade in Washington for Veterans Day would be postponed until at least 2019. Pentagon spokesman Col. Rob Manning said the White House and the Defense Department "have now agreed to explore opportunities in 2019," the Associated Press reported. Earlier in the day, it was reported that the cost estimate for the parade had skyrocketed to $92 million -- about $80 million over the original estimated budget. Trump has called for a grand parade featuring all branches of the military, but critics have called the plan a waste of money.

This is just a very weak attempt to deflect his loss of being told NO

Here is some of what occurred last year for the D.C. event -

National Veterans Day Ceremony -- The Veterans Day National Ceremony is held on November 11th at Arlington National Cemetery. The ceremony begins at 11:00 a.m. with a wreath laying at the Tomb of the Unknowns and continues inside the Memorial Amphitheater with a parade of colors by veterans' organizations and remarks from dignitaries. There are many national and state cemeteries throughout the country that may also be holding Veterans Day ceremonies. Click here for a cemetery listing.

[link:https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2014/04/30/moscow-may-day/8526297/|

Moscow revives Red Square May Day parade

MOSCOW — Tens of thousands of Russians marched through Red Square on Thursday as part of May Day celebrations in the first such display of Soviet-era-like ceremony since 1991 — the year the communist Soviet Union dissolved.

"For the first time, stages will be filled, and 5,000 (labor) veterans will stand on the tribunes of Red Square," Sergei Chernov, chairman of the Moscow Labor Union Federation, was quoted by ITAR-Tass as saying, ahead of the march, which is being seen as part of President Vladimir Putin's efforts to stoke patriotic feelings following Russia's annexation of Crimea.

As many as 2 million people were expected to be on hand for the event organized by Russian labor unions, which are mostly loyal to the Kremlin. In the end, about 100,000 people participated in the celebration, some holding signs saying: "Let's go to Crimea for vacation" and "Putin is right." Russian flags fluttered through the crowd.

Celebrating the glorious victory of shitler in Operation Just Because.
Too bad there was no national parade for our Iraq and Afghanistan vets, though.

Next year the cost comes way down, when we make DC pay all the costs for our tanks destroying buildings, street lights, the Lincoln Memorial, etc.

The symbolism is ultra-Trumpian.

I suppose the good news is that he'll be in a country where he doesn't speak the language, so even if he wants to give a speech, not many people there will pay attention.

Wait for Trump to complain about laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier because he was a "nobody".
