Reuters Myanmar reporters jailed for seven years in landmark secrets case

Source: Reuters

YANGON (Reuters) - A Myanmar judge on Monday found two Reuters journalists guilty of breaching a law on state secrets and jailed them for seven years, in a landmark case seen as a test of progress towards democracy in the Southeast Asian country.
...
The two reporters had pleaded not guilty and told the court police planted documents on them in the course of their work in reporting on Myanmar’s violence-plagued Rakhine State.

Press freedom advocates, the United Nations, the European Union and countries including the United States, Canada and Australia had called for the journalists’ acquittal.

One police witness testified the restaurant meeting was a set-up to entrap the journalists to block or punish them for their reporting of a mass killing of Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine.

had taken even the basic steps to act against government genocide. Burmese "trumpsters" call Rohinga who've lived in Myanmar for centuries "illegal immigrants" and support atrocities that have grown into full-scale genocide. Which the perpetrators are trying to hide.

On August 27, 2018, just two days after Rohingya Genocide Remembrance Day, the United Nations issued a scathing report, accusing Myanmar’s military, known as the Tatmadaw, of committing crimes against humanity, including murder on a massive scale, torture, rape, enforced disappearance, imprisonment, and sexual slavery.

Criminalizing the free press. Like he's trying to do to Hillary , and soon many others from the previous administration ,and opposition. Putin even had them in one of his other rigged election countries where he installed another compromised puppet , he had them chanting lock her up to the previous lady that was in office , and she was criminalized and sent to jail . Putins doing the same here, and soon this will be used against the journalists. Isn't it amazing trump can con people into believing only negative things they print about him, or positive about his opponents is fake news, but everything, I mean everything positive towards him , or negative against his opponents is credible, and great reporting, and they believe him.
