New plan from some House Democrats aims to oust Nancy Pelosi
Source: CBS News
An ongoing feud over who will lead House Democrats next year is poised to enter a new round as early as next week, as members eager to oust House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-California, are floating a new way to do so.
...snip...
This group of anti-Pelosi Democrats is seeking to change the way the caucus elects its top leader. On Wednesday, these members submitted a way to tweak the byzantine procedural rules governing the makeup of the caucus.
Current House Democratic rules require that their leader win a majority of the caucus in order to secure the job and be put forward as a candidate to the full House to serve as speaker. Democrats and Republicans put forward candidates for House speaker at the start of a new two-year session. Given the math, the majority party's candidate always wins and becomes speaker.
Under the plan unveiled by anti-Pelosi Democrats, if the party wins control of the House, their new leader would need to win the votes of at least 218 Democrats representing a majority of the entire House in order to win the leader position and be considered as speaker.

This is stupidity at its max...Someone has been intoxicated with power, unless of course my theory as stated in the subject line is true.

(7,383 posts)than it is? I think, it is normal process to vote in a leader. To renew it with a new vote. Right? Members can throw in their hat if they want. Why so much drama media? Stop it!

(6,551 posts)The election going in favor of Democrats is not a done deal. Who will be Speaker of the House can be dealt with after the election results are in. I'm beginning to think there is something in the water in the House of Representatives that leads to brain damage.

(14,572 posts)what we need to be focusing now on is winning the election.
This argument, if it needs to happen, should happen AFTER we've swept the House and won back a solid majority in the Senate.

(24,329 posts)that means 113 voted against her. What if they cannot get 218 votes for anybody?
What if someone chooses not to vote at all? It will be 217 every time
I have no problem with them wanting change. But, this idea is silly

(I was going to say, "The onus is on them to get off their fat asses," but I feared that would be too negative.)

(498 posts)I just realized that whoever the speaker of the house is if democrats get both house and senate.. could very well end up the 46th or 47th president.
If democrats gain both house and senate, trump is gone. Which means pence... but it's possible we'd get rid of pence as well since it's possible mueller has enough evidence against him as well. So question is.. would pence get pushed into pres seat then impeached? or impeached together with trump which would lead to the speaker of the house becoming pres.
SO... a really important question... any dem is likely lightyears better than trump... but if we had our pick of dem presidents would it be Pelosi?

Seeing Tim Ryan on the list makes me think this is his idea and he found 10 other Dems to go along with him.
Ryan has already challenged Pelosi and got his tail handed to him in voting. I guess this is his latest plan to become speaker, but what he apparently doesn't get is that in this day and age and such a diverse party, a pasty white guy from Ohio isn't going to become majority leader or speaker of the house.

(65,010 posts)This sounds teabaggerish. The "Freedom" caucus is only about a 7th of the R's in the House and they use blackmail and poutiness to get their way.
Now, it's a group of 11 who will take their ball and go home if they don't get their way?
Too much like the Jordan gang.
