UPDATED: Kavanaugh accuser accepts Senate Judiciary Committee's request to testify

Source: Politico

By BURGESS EVERETT and ELANA SCHOR 09/22/2018 02:45 PM EDT

Christine Blasey Ford has accepted the Senate Judiciary Committee’s request to testify on Ford’s allegation that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her in high school, Ford’s attorneys told Senate Republicans on Saturday afternoon in an email obtained by POLITICO.

Ford’s lawyers indicated they have yet to reach an agreement with the committee on the specifics and asked to continue negotiations about the details of her appearance on Saturday afternoon.

“Dr. Ford accepts the Committee's request to provide her first-hand knowledge of Brett Kavanaugh's sexual misconduct next week,” wrote Debra Katz and Lisa Banks, Ford’s attorneys. “We are hopeful that we can reach agreement on details.”

UPDATE:

Christine Blasey Ford Will Testify to Congress Next Week

The exact timing, setting and other details of her testimony remain unclear.

Andrew Desiderio

09.22.18 2:42 PM ET

Christine Blasey Ford, the woman who accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault, has agreed to testify in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee next week, her lawyers confirmed Saturday.

“Dr. Ford accepts the Committee’s request to provide her first-hand knowledge of Brett Kavanaugh’s sexual misconduct next week,” Ford’s lawyers, Debra Katz and Lisa Banks, said in a letter to the committee.

The notice came after an intense 72 hours of negotiations over the terms of Ford’s testimony. But as of Saturday afternoon, the exact timing was unclear, and Ford’s lawyers appeared to object to some of the terms laid out by the committee. It was also unclear whether the testimony would occur in public or behind closed doors. Katz and Banks asked to continue negotiating with the committee.

“Although many aspects of the proposal you provided via email, on September 21, 2018, at 2:33 pm, are fundamentally inconsistent with the Committee’s promise of a fair, impartial investigation into her allegations, and we are disappointed with the leaks and the bullying that have tainted the process, we are hopeful that we can reach agreement on details,” the attorneys continued.

By Friday afternoon, Republicans on the committee had given Ford an ultimatum, telling her lawyers that the committee would vote Monday on Kavanaugh’s nomination unless they accepted a final offer for Ford to testify Wednesday.

If they do then we should see a "Kavanaugh announces his withdrawl due to failing health of loved one" or some some BS excuse soon.

The Judiciary Committee will vote along party lines to confirm him, and then the Turtle will proceed with the vote in the full Senate, and he will be confirmed with 50 votes + Pence.

as opposed to "assault." People have already started jumping on that bandwagon. How this woman is being treated disgusts me to no end. I wish there was a GoFundMe page so we can all chip in for her bulletproof vest and round the clock security detail for her family.

I don't know the reasons she chose that languge - but I noticed that she did not call it alleged sexual misconduct, so she may have chosen that term to avoid being required to use "alleged" as a qualifier.

Sep 2018

First of all am I the only one upset when the stories say "kavanaugh accuser" and not "Dr. Ford who accuses kavanaugh"? It dehumanizes her. Anyway, I expect no matter what Dr. Ford says, gr-ass-ley will hold the vote to get it out of committee. Then turtle man will call the Senate vote immediately. In Nov. 2016 we lost it all. My hope is that we can at least win the House so the Dems can start investigations and hold trump and the repubs in check.

15. Grassley Will Fold
Sat Sep 22, 2018, 04:00 PM
Sep 2018

Version 1: Grassley would fold if Professor Ford said she would immediately press charges for attempted rape on both Kavanaugh and Mr. Judge if her terms were not met. Statute of Limitations have not expired where the attempted rape occured.

Version 2: Wait until he is confirmed ( if he makes it ) and then press charges. When he goes down, you get two for one. The Judgeship and the Supreme Court are then both captured. The benefit is that when the Dems win the Senate they control the pick, effectively stealing the SCOTUS back by trading Merrick for Kavanaugh.

do the Republicans do if they say that she has been heard, now we're onto a vote, and she immediately files an attempted rape complaint with the Montgomery County Police ? That's why I think Kavanaugh's nomination is already dead in the water. Can you imagine a Supreme Court Judge having to fight an Attempted Rape charge ?

Without an impartial assessment from the FBI, the Republicans will set up an ambush to discredit Christine Blasey Ford. She will be answering questions from three Republicans who will each have different line of attack intended to confuse her. Waiting for the FBI to investigate is the only honest way to approach this.
