NC police find body they believe to be missing 6-year-old boy

GASTONIA, N.C. (AP) — Search crews have found a body they believe to be that of a 6-year-old boy who ran off from his father at a park, a North Carolina police department said Thursday.

A statement from Gastonia police said the body was found around 1 p.m. Thursday at a location approximately 4 miles (6 kilometers) from the park where he was last seen. Identification of the body will be done by the medical examiner's office.

1. just reading this story my heart is broken

I have a 6 year old daughter. Just today she got angry at me because I couldn't go for a walk and she said she'd take a walk by herself and stormed out of the house. I have a 2yo son too so I couldn't just chase her. Our neighborhood isn't dangerous but I'm always afraid anyway.

To lose her would kill me.

My heart goes out to the family.

I know there is narrow room before the cliff but GPS tackers are so small now they could be put into some type of bracelet or clothing tag for vulnerable people like this.

It would absolutely have to be something that would have to be prescribed by a doctor and not something on the open market that an abusive spouse or partner could force on someone.

I just hope the dad didn't have anything to do with it because it sounds hinky that he couldn't catch up with a 6-year-old. But that's just the cop's daughter in me coming out. Always suspicious. It's utterly heartbreaking.
