Lindsey Graham Wants To Investigate Democrats for Kavanaugh Leak
Source: The Atlantic
As the FBI starts interviewing people who could have witnessed the alleged sexual misconduct by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, Senate Republicans are calling for an investigation to hold Democrats accountable for what they say has become a divisive and unnecessary public debate over sexual misconduct allegations leveled against Kavanaugh.
Senator Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina Republican on the Judiciary Committee who has become the voice of GOP outrage over Kavanaughs treatment, called for a probe of who leaked a letter to Senator Dianne Feinstein, the committees ranking Democrat, from California psychologist Christine Blasey Ford. Ford alleged in the letter that Kavanaugh had sexually assaulted her when they were in high school but asked that her complaint be kept confidential.
Ford stated again during her gripping testimony Thursday before the committee that she had not wanted to go public with her account, adding that she only went on the record after reporters from numerous news organizatons, tipped off to her letter, had visited her home and workplace.
Somebody betrayed her trust for a political purpose, Graham said Sunday morning on ABCs This Week. Were going to do a wholesale, full-scale investigation of what I think was a despicable process to deter it from happening again.

We all know that Lindsey Graham has been given assurances by Trump that he will replace Jeff Sessions when Trump fires him, which is why Lindsey has suddenly been cool with the idea of Trump firing Jeff Sessions, but you would think that Lindsey would be a just a little more discreet about it. First, he loses his s^&% during the confirmation hearings, then he goes all in with the investigate the Democrats Trump talking point.
Well, I guess in 2020, it will be interesting to see if we have a democracy left if Trump/Graham are successful in weaponizing the DOJ into a political hit squad.

all of this was covered early on, and is being twisted like a bad example of telephone, or whatever it's called when it's whispered from one person to the next ...
and the news source that id'd Ford initially and she agreed to be identified as the person of interest ?
has said it was not leaked to them by Feinstein ...
so much disinfo flying about here 😑

(537 posts)1) "letter leaked to" should have been "letter to ____ leaked"
2) the confusion during the hearing, which Trump made fun of, was Feinstein seeming to think they were accusing her office of not just leaking the content, but the letter itself. Feinstein was saying, or asking her staff I think, if the letter itself had ever been leaked, which I believe hadn't happened.
Dr. Ford made it clear in her testimony that several people knew about it, so the leak didn't have to have originated from Feinstein's office.

(17,913 posts)It's a play on his accent and how he tends to get worked up on occasion, ie. give himself the "vapors". I've been calling Lindsay Graham "Scarlett" for years.

(345 posts)No matter what was found, the only person or entity that would have any standing to press charges or sue would be Ford; it was her request for confidentiality that was violated. Thus Ford is the only person who has the right to call for an investigation.
Graham is basically implying that the repubs had some kind of "right" to Ford's confidentiality.
Like a few other people, Graham has forgotten the difference between elected representatives and monarchs.
