Lawyer who fought to ban trans people from bathrooms will lead DOJ civil rights division

An anti-gay lawyer was confirmed to lead the Department of Justices Civil Rights Division.
In a 52-45 vote, the Senate confirmed Donald Trumps nominee, Eric Dreiband.
He will now head up the Department of Justices efforts to fight racism, homophobia, and other forms of discrimination, even though he has spent his life defending discrimination.
Dreiband represented the University of North Carolina in a lawsuit against the schools decision to enforce HB2, which restricted bathroom access for trans people and banned local governments from passing LGBTQ anti-discrimination ordinances.

(53,957 posts)This asshole will make it easier to attack the GLBT community while people twiddle their thumbs and make homophobic jokes about him being a "secret faggot". With someone like this in position, hate crimes statutes could come under attack and sexual orientation and gender identity get dropped all together. It could also lead to a "reinstitution" (or acceptance of) of the "gay panic" defense.

I don't recall seeing anyone from the LGBTQ community suck up to Trump a la Kanye West (SO embarrassing), so I guess y'all saw the dangers of a Trump presidency.
We just didn't campaign hard enough for Hillary.
