Shocking Turnout For First Day Of Early Voting In Houston

Source: Houston Chronicle

By Jeremy Wallace, Houston Chronicle, 1 hr. ago.

Thousands of people were already camped out at a key early voting location in Houston on Monday morning, hours before voting was even set to begin.

Nearly 2,000 people stood in line outside of the Metropolitan Multi-Service Center on West Gray near River Oaks in a scene that looked more like a Black Friday shopping morning.

BETO IN THE BURBS: O'Rourke touts willingness to serve all Texans in Conroe visit

"This is one of the most important elections of our lifetimes," said Cody Pogue, who arrived at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday to make sure he'd be one of the first people to cast a ballot for Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Beto O'Rourke.

Just moments later, O'Rourke was across the street firing up his supporters with a bullhorn. "Are y'all ready?" O'Rourke said to a cascade of cheers. "Houston, I love you." - More...

One local, Karen Bard, was in line to vote more than an hour before the polls opened. She said she doesn't normally vote in midterms, but O'Rourke changed that and that "it's not about me, it's about my kids."

in that area of Houston. Even though it is at the border of the Old Money Rich (River Oaks), it is at the edge of the most progressive, politically active sector of the city.

Went to vote and huge numbers there , and even better was a massive amount of people voting for Beto there. People were talking how pissed they all are at trump and the gop for everything. I've never heard so many bash another party as much as i heard this morning, and only a few were quiet, and said nothing. We need badly even more to vote to make sure we retake both the House and the Senate or they'll get worse , and trump may force two more out on the Supreme Court so he can , or putin can choose another flunkie or two for them .

Get the urban areas out - Houston, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Austin, San Antonio, El Paso, etc.

And this is just sad -

She said she doesn't normally vote in midterms

THAT is why Texas went "red".

And she needs to vote EVERY year, not just every 4 years or every 2 years so she can start having a say for what happens in her state and city - even if the person you wanted loses... at least you made the attempt because the next time, it just might happen.

But because we see this every time - begging, cajoling, scaring people to vote, then the next year, they are "exhausted" and you don't see them again, so hopefully we can get people into the habit.

line was a little out the door. As we drove into the parking lot, right next to the street was an older gentleman with grey hair and long beard, a black long sleeve shirt with BETO written in front. He was holding up the Beto sign as well, bless his heart. I believe he was the same gentleman i had seen yesterday in the Walgreen's since he had the same shirt on, and his long grey beard is quite distinguished. I'm glad the weather was nice for him to volunteer his time for Beto.

That said, considering i'm in trump country i'm not sure if i should be happy that alot of locals showed up to vote the first day. Some older couples in front of us were saying for the presidential election early voting the line wasn't anywhere near this long. i just hope to God the majority of them voted for Dems. This is our last year of straight party voting in Texas (Republican controlled Congress here) so both the hubby & i made sure to check that box. Unfortunately for quite a few of the local offices there was only a GOP candidate running uncontested, with 2 Libertarians. I voted for the Libertairians and left those with only the GOP candidate blank, as i could not in good conscience vote for a Republican candidate.

I got a few friends coming with me too. I'm surprised by the amount of love for Beto in this part of the state. All considering how red it is up here.

This is what worries me. The "gohmert inbreds" that are forcefed reichwing radio, fox poison and evangelical fear are thick outside of the major metro areas. They fear "the wrath of (their) god" if the evil "satanist socialists" take over. Their fear is strong AND vengeful. These are some really ignorant and misinformed tools.

I've driven through Texas...several times now. Black and white...nothing in between when it comes to politics and reality. I just pray there are more of us than there are of them. This IS the Civil War 2018.

IF YOU DON'T VOTE, YOU DON'T GET TO COMPLAIN ABOUT YOUR REPRESENTATIVES.
So, if you sit this one out, you don't get to complain for the next two years.

Morning drive-time radio by a popular DJ that covered everything' local news, sports, traffic weather, etc. You know the type of program - BEFORE the Reich started buying radio stations left and right.

One day he stepped into the political (local Fairfax County, Virginia) stuff, was good at it, and so his program format changed to include call-ins, almost all of them political. And every call started like this:

CALLER: "I'm calling about (insert your favorite local, state, federal pet-peeve here) and...."

DJ: (Interrupts!) "Did you vote in the last election?"

CALLER: "No; I..."

DJ: (Click! He hung up on the caller!) I'm sorry. You know my rule: You don't vote; you don't get to complain. Next caller..."

Take that Limbaugh!

If the caller responded with a "Yes" the mic was his and they would talk. I loved it!
