Stormy Daniels' lawyer Michael Avenatti ordered to pay $4.85 million in dispute with former colleagu
Source: AP via CNBC
A California judge on Monday ordered Stormy Daniels' lawyer Michael Avenatti to pay $4.85 million to an attorney at his former law firm, the first time the potential presidential candidate is being held personally liable in the case.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Dennis Landin issued the ruling after turning down a request from Avenatti to have the matter moved to federal court, which the opposing side called a delay tactic.
Avenatti did not appear at the court hearing and never filed opposing arguments in the case.
The judge said Avenatti must pay the money because he personally guaranteed a settlement with Jason Frank, who had worked at his former firm.

(11,519 posts)Granted, I truly appreciate anyone who is a thorn in Tiny's side, but Avenatti is definitely NOT who the Democratic Party needs on the presidential ticket and I wish news outlets would quit calling him a potential candidate.

(42,703 posts)The first thing some folks do is to assume that if a case goes against a Trump opponent, it must be because the judge was corrupt. It's a silly, whiny assumption, and it happens all the time.

Michael Avenattis Law Firm Hit With $10 Million Judgment
"When he isnt creating massive legal headaches for the president of the United States, Stormy Danielss attorney finds time to engineer a few for himself. On Tuesday, a bankruptcy court judge in California hit one of Michael Avenattis law firms with a $10 million judgment, after Avenatti failed to deliver on a $2 million promise he had made to a former colleague, the Los Angeles Times reports.
To settle his law firms bankruptcy, Stormy Danielss attorney had promised to pay his former colleague Jason Frank $4.85 million and agreed that if he failed to make such restitution in a timely matter, then the Eagan Avenatti firm would agree to pay Frank $10 million. Last week, Franks first $2 million came due, and Avenatti did not pay up"

(35,309 posts)This is a judgment against him.
And there are still people, no doubt, who say that Avenatti's never been wrong or made a mistake. Mostly because people follow a strong horse, and that's how Avenatti (rather like Trump) bills himself.
This too.
"Michael Avenatti is hit with $4.85-million judgment for unpaid debt as court orders eviction of his law firm"
" Less than an hour after his defeat in the Los Angeles lawsuit, Avenatti suffered another setback at a trial in Orange County: The Irvine Co. won a court order evicting him and his staff from their offices because the firm, Eagan Avenatti, skipped the last four months of rent.

(11,810 posts)...voting for Avenatti, but in the overall political climate we find ourselves living in, he's proven quite useful. Few are willing to call out the President's BS the way his own followers can understand. I can see him being a very popular surrogate.
