Ahead Of Keynote, Obama Camp Releases Video Highlighting Julian Castro’s Mom

EVAN MCMORRIS-SANTORO 5:42 PM EDT, TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 4, 2012

CHARLOTTE -- With just hours to go until San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro's historic keynote address at the Democratic National Convention here, the Obama campaign posted a video online highlighting Castro's mother, who he credits as the foundation of his political career. Castro also talks at length about his grandmother, who emigrated to San Anotino from Mexico.

"I have seen in my family the promise of America," Castro says in the video. "If you ensure and oppurtunity for everyone, the American dream is still possible."

I believe Henry Cisneros was the first Hispanic mayor of S.A.

I went to college there. When I was living there, the mayor was an old rich white woman named Lila Cockrell. Probably just a tool of the rich white folks who owned the town and lived on the north side, in places like Alamo Heights. I had a boyfriend who called it "Alamo Whites".

The most notorious murder in Alamo Heights was the murder of Federal Judge John Wood by Charles Harrelson. I was living there when that occurred.
