After Blowback, AP Deletes Tweet Quoting Trump's False Claim

The Associated Press deleted a tweet Tuesday that quoted a false claim President Donald Trump made directly and without any context, after getting pushback from some political observers.
We have deleted a tweet about President Trumps claim that the U.S. is the only country that grants birthright citizenship because it failed to note that his statement was incorrect.

The criticism centered around the fact that the tweet presented the Presidents claim as truth, when few laymen have the requisite background to know that its false.

(3,290 posts)I find it hard to believe that AP does not even make a rudimentary fact check of anything they are reporting on uttered by trump. Makes me question anything with their byline or attribution.

2) trmp cannot over-ride a Constitutional Amendment with an executive order.
If anyone in Congress is stupid enough to follow up on this by introducing a bill, it is still preposterous. It takes a lot more than a bill in Congress to demolish a Constitutional Amendment.
And thank goodness for that.

(1,279 posts)His statement does not make sense. Of course we are the only country where a baby is born and is a US citizen. Yes I know, embassy people or American citizens having a baby abroad, but that is not what he meant.
