LOS ANGELES Police are investigating anti-Semitic graffiti spray-painted on a Southern California synagogue as a hate crime, just four days after a gunman killed 11 at a synagogue in Pittsburgh the deadliest attack against the Jewish community in U.S. history.
The Irvine Police Department was notified about the vandalism on an exterior wall of Beth Jacob Synagogue on Wednesday morning.
Police believe the vandalism occurred around 1 a.m. Wednesday, public information officer Kim Mohr told USA TODAY. Surveillance video from the synagogue showed a man wearing a hoodie spray-painting the wall and leaving on a bicycle.
I just feel very sad that in America, in 2018, we still have to worry about anti-Semitism, Allen Berezovsky, president of the temple's board, told the Orange County Register.

The Trump administration, which already canceled a grant for a group that fights white supremacist terror, now appears unwilling to renew the anti-domestic terror program under which it was funded, despite recent high-profile attacks like the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting and data showing a spike in attacks on religious minorities.

(26,060 posts)A few days after this nazi murdered 11 people, degenerate donnie has given solace to him and his imbecilic theory that Jews led by George Soros is financing those refugees in Mexico. Look for more vandalism and death aimed at the Jews thanks to donnie because it's going to be easy to find.

I made my first contribution to the ADL. I should have done it years ago.
Behind the Aegis
(53,956 posts)There is a culture, IMO, of people ignoring anti-Semitism because they do not see it "as grave" as other forms of discrimination, so when something like the Tree Of Life massacre happens, most people are wandering around going "What happened?" Many Jews and our true allies, of course, already know. We have seen the writing on the wall (or the swastika, as it were). I watched various newscasts and the gasps and "oh noes" being bandied about when they "discovered" hate crimes against Jews had risen almost 60%. With all the talk about hate against various groups, Jews are almost always left out of the conversation, and when it does affect us, people make a concerted effort to change the topic to something else or complain about how we address anti-Semitism. Take a look at hate crime stats from the FBI from the last several years and you will discover that in the category of "religion" over half of all hate crimes are committed against one group, Jews. This has been going on for years! To show how stark this is, I am going to show you three sets of data from the FBI.
Hate incidents against Muslims
2000 - 28 (out of 1,472)
2001 - 481 (out of 1,828) (26%)
2002 - 155 (out of 1,426)
Of course, 9/11 took place and we saw an unjustifiably MASSIVE increase of hate launched against Muslims. It was all over the news at the time, and still is referenced in articles today. Here are those numbers for Jews during the same time frame.
Hate incidents against Jew
2000 - 1,109 (out of 1,472)
2001 - 1,043 (out of 1,828) (57%)
2002- 931 (out of 1,426)
So, you can see a spike in hate against Muslims, which fell just as drastically as it rose the following year, and hate crimes against Jews creeped down those three years, but in all three years, hate crimes against Jews were more than HALF of all hate crimes. Even at its highest rate, Islamophobia didn't come close to the acts of anti-Semitism, and yet, it largely goes unreported and ignored. Sadly, even within the Jewish community. To be clear, as I have to do anytime I mention Jews and anti-Semitism, I am not indicating we ignore Islamophobia or downplay it, I am simply suggesting it is long overdue to pay close attention to anti-Semitism instead of ignoring it or whatabouting it.
My husband and I also donate to the ADL, and have for years. I feel it is money well spent.

(57,080 posts)you well know ADL is a wonderful resource as a collecting point and clearing house for any sort of hate group that may exist. I've used it for years and regret taking too long to actively support it.
