Poll: Independent voters say Clint Eastwood was RNC’s best speaker

Source: examinar

Independent voters loved Clint Eastwood’s Republican National Convention performance, despite the criticism he drew from political observers.

Twenty percent of convention-watchers ranked Eastwood as the highlight of the week, according to a new PEW Research poll conducted over the weekend. Mitt Romney placed second with 17 percent — the same number that John McCain received in PEW’s 2008 poll.

Eastwood was especially popular among independent voters. “More independents who watched convention coverage cited Eastwood’s speech than Romney’s speech as the convention highlight (26% vs. 17%),” PEW found.

Republican voters preferred Romney (25 percent) to Eastwood (19 percent). A plurality of Democrats managed not to like anyone, as 40 percent of Democratic poll respondents told PEW that “there was no convention highlight.”

sounds like Clint talking to a chair was better than anything else the GOP had to offer.... They already have Jon Voight booked for 2016... the plan is to have him barking at a tree stump for 30 mins...

I think most people think Clint was a "highlight" b/c it was so weird and off-the-wall.

The poll SHOULD have asked Independents if Man Yells At Chair changed their opinion about Romney or Obama, not if it was a "highlight."

Reminds me of how Bill Maher has been saying the "undecideds" must be mentally weak not to see the difference in the 2 groups.
It appears that they valued a comedy routine (i.e. entertainment) over any discussion of issues.
So I'd wonder if it says more about independents than the content of the convention.

and then tell us about it in his next speech, like Richard Mulligan who played Burt in the sitcom Soap. Maybe then he'll be as popular as the invisible Obama.

according to Clint Eastwood made Obama a more popular speaker than Romney. Eastwood was quoting Obama so Obama was considered the "best speaker".

Everyone else was sleep night. Clint's an actor. like hello. I happen to love film (movies are a side effect) Media made a big bruhaha. but he's harmless. now racist Hank Williams Jr isn't harmless. r Lee ermey. alot like clint. like them both. I might be registered dem. but as I've said. I'm Left wing libertarian.. Ever since someone mentioned the word the more I feel I have to say that. It's the Republican politicians that are just killing that party. We need a 2 party system and they are self killing themselves..

Eastwood is an actor, and modern conventions are sanitized snorefests that hardly anyone watches. Naturally, a weird, off-script performance by an iconic actor is going to be the highlight.

Democratic Party being all bummed out was the best one.

I personally thought that Clint's comments were pretty interesting:

" I would just like to say something, ladies and gentlemen.
Something that I think is very important. It is that, you, we
-- we own this country.
(APPLAUSE)
We -- we own it. It is not you owning it, and not
politicians owning it. Politicians are employees of ours.
(APPLAUSE)
And -- so -- they are just going to come around and beg
for votes every few years. It is the same old deal. But I just
think it is important that you realize , that you're the best in
the world. Whether you are a Democrat or Republican or whether
you're Libertarian or whatever, you are the best. And we should
not ever forget that."
