Sen. Joe Manchin on Thursday warned that the firing of Attorney General Jeff Sessions, as well as his replacement by an acting attorney general loyal to President Donald Trump, has put the country on the verge of a constitutional crisis.
In an interview on CBS This Morning, Manchin (D-W.Va.), a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, told anchor Norah ODonnell that it's a big mistake to let Jeff Sessions go.
Manchin praised Sessions, whom he called a good friend, as a good person who is grounded and committed to the rule of law and he expressed worry over the future of the Justice Departments investigation into whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia to influence the 2016 election.
Sessions recused himself from the probe early on after it was revealed that Sessions had met with the then-Russian ambassador while he served as an adviser to Trump during the campaign, despite previously claiming he had no contacts with Russians.

Conservadems like him does not belong in the caucus, honestly.

(1,414 posts)by 1/20/2017 12:17 pm we entered already a full blown constitutional crises, as somehow a traitor had been sworn in as the 45th president of the united states. A traitor who without the consent of the majority denigrated and insulted the American nation, and declared war on it's very people in his inauguration speech. Pitting those who foolish gave him their support, against a mainstream America in want of nothing more than the gifts of American citizenship: justice and liberty.

(599 posts)Conservadems like him prevent the Democrats from truly controlling the Senate when they have the majority.
My biggest fear is Manchin is going to throw a wrench into the Democrats' efforts to appoint liberal SC justices (if they win control of the Senate in 2020 and/or beyond). Unless the Democrats can get a large enough majority that Manchin's vote wouldn't matter.

(1,702 posts)Constitutional Crisis. Of course the fuck we are. Will someone with a law degree start a thread that explains how we stop a Constitutional Crisis when the next election is years away? It's obvious that our system of Gov has given too much unchecked power to the President and changes are needed, imo.

(12,586 posts)WTF is it going to take to push it over the line? When Donnie Two Scoops said he could stand in the middle of the street and shoot someone in the face and not lose a single supporter, I thought he was talking metaphorically. Now, I'm not too sure.
