(CNN) - John Hinckley, the man who tried to kill President Ronald Reagan in 1981, can move out of his mother's house and live independently or with roommates or a family member, according to a court ruling issued Friday.

Hinckley, 63, has been living with his mother in Williamsburg, Virginia, since being released from St. Elizabeth's psychiatric hospital in Washington, DC, in September 2016. The 14-page ruling by US District Judge Paul L. Friedman has many stipulations.

Hinckley must live with a 75-mile radius of Williamsburg and maintain bimonthly contact with his doctors while continuing group and individual therapy sessions, including music therapy. He and members of his family are prohibited from talking to the media, according to the court document.

He can drive within a 75-mile mile radius of Williamsburg. No tracking device will be installed on the vehicles, but he must carry a GPS-enabled cell phone when he's away from his residence, the court order said.

that he didn't kill anyone.

OTOH, isn't there some consensus that James Brady's death was a belated result of the injuries he suffered in the shooting?

The fact that Brady eventually died of his injuries doesn't factor in.

If he's recovered enough to have been living successfully with his mother for the past two years, I think it's reasonable to give him a chance to live on his own.

As long as he keeps up his treatment plan, I don't think he's a danger to anyone.

And, it sounds like he will still be pretty carefully monitored for signs he's going off the plan.

ETA: I'd much rather live next door to him than Richard Spencer.

14. Bimonthly every two months, just as bicentennial is every two hundred years. n/t
That seems logical to assume, but the comparison doesn't quite work because "bicentennial" has only ONE accepted and common meaning.

"Bimonthly" is one of those ambiguous and imprecise words that has TWO meanings. As a result, the reader must rely on its surrounding context to flesh-out whether it means twice a month, or whether it means once every other month. In this case (unless I overlooked it) there is no other contextual clues within the body of the article. That's what I was looking for.

bimonthly
[bahy-muhnth-lee]

adjective

1) occurring every two months.
2) occurring twice a month; semimonthly.

I mean, she's got to be in her 80's, right? He could have left any time he wanted, so this guy could be incapable of making plans on his own. A mentally ill person can lack the ability to plan anything but they could still be dangerous to themselves or someone else.

As I see it, one of the dangers is when demented people interact with "normal" people, and they have no idea that something is wrong. I see this behavior with my own sister and I need to constantly remind people that she isn't playing with a full deck. They try to give her the benefit of the doubt, because they don't want to be rude.

A lot of Americans don't know who John Hinckley is, or what he looks like. Once he's out in public again, he'll surely interact with people who don't know anything about him. His mother or other family members won't be following him around and keeping tabs.

and have him walk into gun shows and buy guns. (you know he could).

Maybe then people, even some republicans, will think we need more comprehensive gun laws.

But it would've been even better if Bush's potential connection to and interest in Reagan's attempted assassination had been properly investigated.

The Bushes and Hinckleys were close friends after all. And considering the senior Bush's link to the Kennedy assassination, his deep ties to the CIA, etc. the Bush-Hinckley relationship should have at least warranted closer inspection.

He would have been stashed deep inside a maximum security prison and forgotten about.

But I'm glad he has been given the opportunity to get well.

Most mass shooters are insane. But our justice department spends millions of dollars to prove them sane so they can be locked away in a maximum security prison forever.

Justice can be beguiling.
