John Kasich And Democrat Sherrod Brown Hint At 2020 Presidential Runs

Source: The Guardian

By Martin Pengelly, 14.13 EST.

Not since John F Kennedy in 1960 has a president won the White House without winning Ohio. On Sunday, two Ohio politicians said they were giving serious consideration to running in 2020.

Senator Sherrod Brown, a Democrat, told ABC’s This Week he and his wife were “seriously thinking about it”. John Kasich, the outgoing Republican governor, told the same show he was considering it “very seriously”.

Brown, who won re-election this month, is thought by some to appeal to voters in northern, post-industrial “rust belt” states that backed Donald Trump in 2016. Perhaps trying out a Democratic spin on the Republican’s winning formula, he said: “To me, populism is never antisemitic, it’s never racist, it never pushes people down in order to lift others up. That’s the phoney populism of Donald Trump. To me, populism respects the dignity of work and moves forward and tries to lift all boats.”

Kasich, a former congressman who ran unsuccessfully for the Republican nomination in 2000 and 2016, has established himself as a leading critic of Trump, who he would face in a primary. “We need different leadership,” he said, “there’s no doubt about it. I’m not just worried about the tone and the name-calling and the division in our country, and the partisanship. I also worry about the policies. You know, rising debt. An inability to deal with immigration, the problems that we have as America alone in the world … I’m worried about our country.”

Minnesota Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar who's also been mentioned for 2020 told ABC that she “did well in a number of those places Donald Trump won”. She added: “I am just still thinking about this. I’m sorry to say, I have no announcement for you on your show.”

John Kasich (R) fmr governor of Ohio, Fox news host, investment banker; Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH).

For a second, I took the title of this article to mean that Sherrod would get his hands dirty by running with anti-choice Kasich as a running mate.

I don't know much about him, but I would love to hear what he has to say. From what I've heard, he's one of the good guys.

He has turned Ohio into a mecca of gerrymandering and the long lines to vote in urban areas is ridiculous. Oh, and he shut down the government in 1995 to pressure Bill Clinton into letting him gut Medicare. Thankfully, Clinton stood firm.

Also, Kasich and Brown couldn't run together anyway. The constitution says that the President and VP have to be from different states.

If the Dems don't nominate a woman you know the Repukes will in 2024. As things are trending, I think America is now ready for a female president. It's going to happen. Wouldn't it be great if Trump and his traitors were beat by a strong liberal woman?

he wouldn't live in the Governor's house but had to stay about 45 minutes away @ his own house
at a greatly increased cost to the state so his daughters could stay in their "Christian school."

But he may do to Trump what Kennedy did to President Carter.

Brown is the real deal. I disagree with his Ohio necessary trade rhetoric but he has been my choice for over a year. My post prove it. He would bury trump with Harris or Booker on his ticket.

1. The corporate media is DESPERATE to anoint a "reasonable" puke, i.e. one not overtly batshit crazyzee, and keeps sniffing around ksuck, who is trying to play the role.

2. he's probably the best positioned puke to play "rescuer" for the GOPee, with all the corporate dark money willing to prop him up so that he can continue their agenda with a smiling face.

I suspect the corporate media will whitewash his extremist positions and he would have mega dark money.

The GOP is more interested in the WH and Senate than keeping Trump around.
They will back anyone who looks like they could beat the Dem challenger.
2020 doesn't look good for the GOP, to me. They got hit hard this time, though not hard enough in the Senate.
As long as Trump is around, anti-Trump backlash will grow. I say the Dems get the Senate back in 2020.
More Dems will enter the House. The WH will be up for grabs, and I say it leans Blue at this point in time.

Don't fall for his "Aw shucks" every man moderate persona. The guy tried to break public sector unions here in Ohio on his first term and was defeated in the process. He's been a right wing guy the whole time as Governor but now that Trump and others have pulled the party far right he sees some daylight for himself to cast himself as some traditional moderate. It's bullshit.
