Beto O'Rourke now says he won't rule out 2020 White House bid

Source: The Hill

BY AVERY ANAPOL - 11/26/18 05:11 PM EST

Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas) said Monday that he would not rule out a run for president in 2020, backtracking on recent statements that he would not seek the White House.

O’Rourke, who rocketed to national fame with his campaign to unseat Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), indicated Monday that he and his wife are discussing the possibility.

“Amy and I made a decision not to rule anything out,” O’Rourke told reporters after a town hall in El Paso, Texas, according to The Washington Post.

Cruz defeated O’Rourke in a surprisingly close race in deep-red Texas, but the El Paso Democrat’s loss immediately sparked widespread calls for him to challenge President Trump.

But I am all in, and have been since 2017, for Sherrod Brown. Team him with Harris or Booker and they would win hands down. He is a very liberal candidate from Ohio. Actually more liberal in some ways than me. I don’t love his trade policies but understand where he lives. If he can win in Ohio...

Plus, I think in 2 more years all but the bat-shit crazy republicans will want a stabile, proven leadership team. Of course, that means less than 10% of republicans since most are bat shit crazy. But combined with the number of independents we just won it would be a landslide.

Beto should go back to House and move up in leadership. In 2026 after 2 terms of Brown he would be unstoppable. Of course, he will have lots of quality competition!

I need to reinforce; this is not an attack on Beto nor his supporters. I love the guy.

But I am looking forward to us having a traditional primary season with lots of qualified candidates. Remind Americans how it should be done.

I think he'd be a great President even though I'm not as much of a populist as he is.

That being said, if he runs for President and wins, his Senate seat will be appointed to a Republican. We may need that Senate seat to help the next Democratic President.

If the next President is a Democrat, we need to control Congress. If we don’t, nothing will get done.

I think Brown is struggling with this issue himself, too.

I just watched a moderate lose a senate seat and a progressive lose the governorship here in Florida.

We got to bring our A game.

I think a Brown/Harris ticket puts Florida in play. And sweeps the Midwest. Others, not so much.
