Scott to oppose Farr nomination to federal bench in NC, ending chances of confirmation
Source: the state
Sen. Tim Scott said Thursday he will oppose the nomination of Thomas Farr to the federal bench, assuring the controversial pick will not be confirmed.
The South Carolina Republican was the deciding vote in determining whether Farr, widely accused of efforts to disenfranchise black voters, would become a federal judge.
Scott's decision comes after four days of intense drama and speculation about what the Senate's only black Republican would do.
/snip/
On Thursday, just half an hour before Farr's confirmation vote was set to take place on the Senate floor, Scott invited several colleagues to his office to discuss the memo and hear from the author, via conference call, once again.

(92,187 posts)realization like Steele did, that the republican party is racist.
That does not mean Scott isn't an extreme right winger, but that with this judge it is getting too personal

(22,647 posts)If he actually does that. Action speaks louder than words. I will believe it when I see it. I am thankful for what seems to be a moment of clarity. Hopefully, nothing else changes and no one else changes their mind.
I apologize on behalf of my beloved North Carolina for the lasting form of Jesse Helms in the appointment of this horrible, horrible judge, Farr.
Just for the record Tillis and Burr are horrible men too, not really willing to serve the state of North Carolina residents based on public opinion. Had the state not been so gerrymandered they would both quite possibly be just another couple of money hungry criminals and not doing their so called puplic service.
Farrs supporters, including North Carolina Republican Sens. Thom Tillis and Richard Burr, have pointed to his well qualified rating from the American Bar Association. Tillis said Democrats engaged in a Kavanaugh-esque attempt to discredit him, referencing the fight over Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who faced allegations of decades-old sexual assault claims during his confirmation hearing.

Burr is smart but he's lazy and Tillis is an idiot.
Democrats cast more votes than republicans during the midterms in North Carolina. Gerrymandering prevented those votes from having an impact and truly reflecting the will of the people.
