A new poll shows most voters side with elements of the federal government that sounded the alarm last month in a dire report on climate change rather than with the head of that government and the nations leading climate-change denier President Donald Trump.
According to the latest POLITICO/Morning Consult poll, two-thirds of voters say they are very or somewhat concerned about the report. A 58 percent majority agrees with the scientific consensus and disagrees with Trump that climate change is being caused by human activity.
The poll was conducted on Dec. 4 roughly a week after Trump dismissed the results of government report that warned that climate change is poised to devastate the country financially and ecologically.
Overall, Trump described the report as fine in public remarks last week. But he disputed the reports conclusions that climate change could cost the U.S. economy hundreds of billions of dollars per year by the end of the century, telling reporters, I dont believe it.

I am so terribly sorry that those who have controlled the levers of power have, since Reagans first act of removing the solar panels from the Carter White House, done so little and are so late

(1,414 posts)Instead of waiting for weak kneed politicians to come on with legislation that would be weak sauced at best, we the people have to take matters in our own hands. First step, curb our consumeristic urges.
A conservative friend (a true conservatives, not the nazis of today) once said to me in regards to social welfare programs: Why should I do for another what they are unwilling to do for themselves. This struck me is a truism. In this case I think it is as well a truism.

(1,414 posts)I always thought it a bit crazy to upgrade one's phone every year or every two years like some. I never thought about it from the carbon point of view, but rather from the debt point of view. Getting a new phone while extending one's phone plan typically leads to paying far more for the phone than had one just purchased it outright, or better purchased a refurbished used phone. Regardless, thanks for the information.
