Former Vice President Joe Biden ripped Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) on Friday for his comments questioning how the terms "white nationalist" and "white supremacist" became offensive.
Biden took to Twitter on Friday night to blast the outspoken Republican, who attempted to defuse the controversy earlier in the day with a speech on the House floor.
"White supremacists and their shameful ideology should have no place in this country in 2019, let alone a voice of sympathy in the United States Congress," Biden wrote.

"White nationalist, white supremacist, Western civilization - how did that language become offensive?" King asked in the interview. "Why did I sit in classes teaching me about the merits of our history and our civilization?"

(22,121 posts)to you) to classes to learn about American history. I'd say you failed miserably in these classes and got failing grades. As a result, I'd say you don't deserve or qualify to be in the House of Representatives since you failed on your civics exams.
How pathetic. Besides being conversant on the US Constitution and its amendments, you should know the history of all of your fellow Americans. ALL of them. All of us has a rich and proud history as being your fellow Americans. Whining about when and why two words are so treated so harshly by your fellow Americans? You have to ask?
I'd answer your question that it was offensive from the get go/beginning, when everybody else in the real world realized that bigotry and hatred of fellow Americans no less is WRONG and BIGOTED, and they put the words into the very beginning of the constitution that say 'all men are created equal...etc.'.
And don't lump 'Western civilization' along w/ these hateful terms of white nationalists and white supremacists...it doesn't carry any similarities at all with these two hateful terms.
